Royal Flush announced pre-bet

Ok, not much of a story, but playing a $1 sit and go earlier, three of us in it, the flop is 4h, Ks, Js. Minimum bet by everyone, fourth card is As. I'm holding an Ace. But the guy before me goes all-in, and announces at the same time,"Make sure you see my hand at the end, it's fantastic!", so I think Royal Flush, and fold, but the other guy calls it. The first guy is indeed holding the required Ts, Qs for the royal flush, beating the other guy with trip kings. But, why the hell would you announce it? It was early on in the game, he hadnt bluffed anything before, so I'm not sure if he was trying a bluff, or was just so happy to get that hand he didnt realise what he was saying.
Footnote, the guy went out a few hands later on a donk-play, before the money!

Royal Flushes are very rare so I guess the guy was excited that he got it. If I got a royal flush but no one calls my raise, I'll show it. It's the kind of hand every poker player dreams of getting. Once you get one, you'll understand.

Sometimes a bit of reverse psychology can work - if you can make someone smell a rat, then you can maybe get a caller that you wouldn't otherwise... probably better to do it when you've just bought one pot and get dealt a monster the next hand - when people will suspect you of trying to run over them anyway, though.

I wouldn't believe it when someone says they've got it....although I can't say I'd actually call it.

Or just get paid off by an idiot at the table so he can see it. Then have it posted so all his peers can laugh at him.......

Why not annouce it!

How many times have we seen folks comment about how stupid a player is to fold when another player makes a statement about how good their hand is? Most of the feedback I see on the forums is more like, "how could you fall for that?" or "he made that comment and you still folded?"

So a player makes a comment like this and we are supposed to believe him? I would ignore his comment and play my hand as if he had said nothing.

Personally, I think he was just too excited to contain himself...but I certainly would not make a comment like this BEFORE the hand was over. But damn right I'm gonna show it after!

As others said, he could have been trying to represent the bluff in order to get called.

Freak, you make me laugh! Timmy told me about popping your cherry when he did the dirty deed! How dare he not profess his love, or at least buy you dinner first! That butthead!
