Ring games or tournaments?
I have mostly played tournaments through my poker career but now am starting to play ring games. At first I was not very successful but im starting to make a lot of money at them. They are very convienent and thats one of the main reasons i like them so much.
What's better for making money? |

Fast money at ring games, either plus or minus. If you can get up at the first sign of tilt, ring games are better. Since I have never shown myself that ability, I'll stick to MTT's and SnG's. Limited risk.

i prefer large MTTs because the prize pool for the top places are so juicy
yes they are harder to make it deep but if u play with some sense of skill and u get lucky, the sky is the limit i mean entering a 1$ tourny and a 3000$ prize pool makes it worth it |

I am the best at SNGs, but still dont make much money at them
. Really you cannot ask us what is most profitable, because it is whatever game that you are best at which would be most profitable. From my experience, fast money comes from ring games. Steady money with less risk comes from SNGs and tournaments (as long as you play within your bankroll managment requirements). |

I've made decent money at both now, but I've moved from almost exclusively playing SnG's (with a rare MTT thrown in) to pretty much exclusively playing ring games (In fact I am usually either 6 or 9 tabling $25 NL ring games now... hoping to move up to $50 nl very soon). When I played SnG's I would typically play 2-3 at a time (mostly $20, 10 max).
They play style is definitely very different for each and I think some people will be far better at one than the other. I've done well at both also. But here's what I've found. Ring games are more consistent money and higher $$ per hour if you can adapt to them from tournaments. But you have to be able to control tilt. Tilt on one hand and lose a buyin and you are absolutely killing your profit rate. This isn't quite as big a problem at sng's. So.. basically rings seem to be more consistent money and more money for me. SnG's can be good money but the variance is far higher. Having an extended out of money streak isn't all that uncommon for sng's even for good players. But different people will probably get different results, this is just my observations so far. |

I normally play small tournaments. I would like to get in to ring games, but I just don't play right for a ring game. Anybody got any links to free articles concerning ring games and not tournaments? I checked here and couldn't find what I was looking for.

I do all three. Lately I have been 4 tabling .05/.10 NL cash cames then if I see a tournament I like I register and stop the cash games. I don't do SNGs as much as I probably should but I find they get kind of boring after a while but I will play them sometimes.
Cash games will make you money the fastest but if you win, or even make a final table of a big MTT you will probably make more than you would at any cash table in that amount of time. |

I disagree. Swings (whether positive or negative) are not steady in cash games. At least from my experience.

Okey.. I have less downswings because of my playing style......... ( I had some downswings for 2 months ago, but I think it has stopped for ever) |
