| Reviewing Your Database I have a question on doing a session review in your database. What information and things should I be looking at the most to help plug some of my leaks. New to the whole database/review thing. |

| Obviously, the bigger your sample, the better. Here's a few things I've looked at: 1. Position Stats -How badly am I performing in early position, compared to on the Button? Is my VP$IP (voluntary put $ in pot) percentage going down the farther I get from the button. Am I leaking chips by completing the SB too often? Do I play too aggressive in early position? Too passive? 2. Starting Hands -What hands are profitable? (especially important with more marginal hands, like suited connectors and small pocket pairs) Do I have hands that are unprofitable that I'm playing too much? Do I have hands that are profitable that I'm not playing enough? Am I missing out on the profit of monster hands by playing them too fast? Too slow? 3. VP$IP -Just how many hands am I playing, and why? Does my VP$IP vary greatly in between sessions? Do I play too many hands when I'm playing under the influence? Too few? Does the presence of a maniac at the table cause me to play too many marginal hands? Not enough? 4. BB/100 (ring games) / ROI (SNGs) -This is what it's all about, right? What games are turning a profit, and why aren't I playing more of them? Are my unprofitable games due to bad play, or bad beats. Does my natural playing speed better suit turbo, normal, or deep stack tournaments? Should I be playing more Razz and HORSE, or swear off anything that isn't NLHE? Is my win-rate going up or down? What may have caused that? If I'm not making as much as I had hoped, what can I do to win more? 5. Time of Day -Just when am I winning the most? Exactly what time do the fish show up? Am I more mentally alert in the mornings? Does my game drop off late at night? Do I need to stop playing poker on Wednesdays? Frankly, the amount of information in your average poker database is just awesome. Some stats are going to be more relevant than others. I've given you a lot of questions. That's the easy part. Come up with the answers for them, and you are really on your way to becoming a pro. |
