Reg'd for the Foxwoods Classic $200 NLH I'm registered for the Foxwoods Classic $200 NLH tournament. It starts tomorrow at 11am ET. I've played live tourneys before but they've all been charity or cheapo Vegas events with horrible structures. This will be my first live tourny that isn't a total crap shoot. The blinds start out at 75/150 and double for the first 3 rounds which sounds terrible if it weren't for the 40 minute levels and 5000 starting chips. This actually rates pretty well with some WSOP events and is better than most on-line events at Full Tilt or Stars. The blind out time is 3 hours and for anyone familiar with Arnold Schneiders rating system it has a patience factor of 9 and a skill rating of 5 out of 6. Due to the low buy-in I doubt they'll be any big names but I expect the final table to be full of reasonably skilled players and of course a luck-box or two who somehow manage to filter through the 1000 player mine field. I expect the prize pool to be around 160k and the winner to take home about 30-40k. The tournament itself is a 2 day affair with day one playing down to a final table which will continue at 12pm on Thursday. Day one could go as long as 15 hours so I'm a little concerned with how I'll hold up if I manage to go deep. Any advice on how to stay sharp will be appreciated. I'll try to keep you all up to date via Twitter and this thread. BTW, the ME is a televised WPT event. If I do well I may just treat myself. Wish me luck.

Wow, 1K players. I have a similar buyin tourney next week (2 day) but the structure is much much different (better). Ill have to check the structure, but as far as ive been told its a 15K starting stack, 1 hour blinds, starting at 25/50. As far as attention span is concerned, I will usually drink some form of energy drink once every few hours with the odd glass of water in between, ill partake in any and all table banter and try to put my opponents on a range every single hand.

I've never tried an energy drink. DO they work? One piece of advice I've heard is to eat light at the dinner break. A full belly makes for a sleepy boy. I may just eat a good breakfast and just have some fruit at the break. |

re: Reg'd for the Foxwoods Classic $200 NLH poker Tourney starts in 20 minutes. Got here early, signed in, had a good breakfast and I'm ready to go. Funny, I actually have a slight case of the jitters. Didn't know poker could do that to me anymore. It's kinda nice.

I'm out. Not at all happy with how I played. I was slightly below avg stack when I found myself HU with the SB w/T5s. As far as I could tell SB was a small stakes pro who seemed to know the dealer. The blinds were 100/200 and we were both sitting on around 6k in chips. He checked the SB to me and I made it 700 to go. He called. The flop came out 766. He checked and I bet another 700. He called. Here's where my game fell apart. The flop came out a Ten, he checked again I assumed there was no way he could call without a hand as I had shown strength the whole way. By this time there was clse to 3k in the pot and I did not want to see a high card on the river. The only bet that made sense was a shove so that's what I did. He called with ATo. The river was a 5 but the paired flop gave us both T6 and his ace played. It was definately a move and I'm not sure I liked his line. AT is not a good trapping hand and I'm a bit surprised he didn't raise pf. The call on the turn was a bit loose but I suppose he wanted to see what I did on the turn. The fact that I paired the flop was irrelevant. I planned to shove anything other than an ace or a king. What do you all think of this move. Bad luck, bad play or a little bit of both.

re: Reg'd for the Foxwoods Classic $200 NLH poker The reason I don't like my own play here is that I should have changed my plans when the ten hit on the turn. Once I actually had a hand I should have tried to keep the pot small. Yes, I might have given him a free card but I probably could have afforded to pay off a small value bet on the river or better yet, pick off a bluff. All in all I think I really botched this one good. I really didn't need to donk off 30bb's. I don't think I would have done this on-line.
