Rebuys and addons.

Does anyone else hate rebuy and add-on tournaments as much as I do? If you want to be able to rebuy you should play ring games. I put my last $10 in A tournament once and did not notice it was A rebuy tourney. I took one guy out twice and someone else took him out once. He kept coming back and eventually took me out and left me broke. I suppose it is my own fault for not checking to see if this tourney allowed rebuys or not, but it was frustrating nunthaless. I've played A few tourneys at checknraisepoker.com and from what I can see they all allow rebuys and addons til first break so I will not invest anymore time into this site.

Rebuys are all about personal taste. I don't mind them in small fields because the prizepool gets sweetened considerably by the rebuys and addons. You just need to adjust to the more loose style that your opponents in a rebuy will play. Choose you battles very carefully and if you are lucky you will have a rich idiot on your right that will keep losing his rebuys to you and make you the chip leader the other benefit is if you take a bad beat you can take another shot by rebuying. The major negative is that you are very likely to suffer a bad beat because of all the "who cares I can just rebuy" players. If an online site has a "guaranteed prizepool" you can safely bet it is a rebuy.

Have used the rebuys and addons myself to come back and win a tourney. Also have been knocked out by those that rebought. I agree with my esteemed collegue that its a matter of personal taste but they sure can add to the prize pool. If you play your cards properly, and defend against the loose cannons you'll be just fine...

Definitely personal taste. For the most part I don't like them. For one reason some guys at our live game start playing extra extra aggressive, just because they know they can rebuy if they need to.
But just last week I went out of a game early, I rebought and went on to win the game. So therefore, if its in my favour -yes, if not- no. And it does bump up the prize money.
Selfish I know, but thats poker.

Personally, No. However, like XD said in a small field, online, they aren't too bad. Why don't you play a little lower limit tourney than you normally would and give yourself a budget for one rebuy and one add-on per tournament? You'll likely find the competition easier and with the R & A, you should have sufficient ammunition to go deep and get ITM. If you like the poker room and don't really want to leave, adjust to the restraints.

If the prize pool and number of players is small, it's not as bad. But in a tournament with 100 plus players, it shouldn't be allowed. A buy-in at a poker tournament is like a mulligan in golf.

so how do you guys feel is the best way to play these? i've found that if you rebuy more then once you have to place well into the money in order to make a profit. i've been playing at Titan lately and it seems like almost all of their daily tournaments are like this. if they're really low buy-ins i might rebuy once, but i seldom like to do that more then once. i personally don't really like them, but they do offer a lot in the way of profit

I would gladly trade a potentially huge prize pool for no rebuys. If you can't play right the first time through, you shouldn't get a second shot. It encourages loose play and further leads to a nation of poker dopes who have no talent and get by on luck.

I never enter tornaments that allow more than one re-buy as i would rather invest my time, effort and money in real poker. If i wanted to play bingo i would join a senior citzens centre.

They can be great as satalites to bigger tourneys, I have qualified for quite a few big tourneys through re-buys

Basically if you are not prepared to buy in atleast once, maybe twice, then its probably best not to enter. I have got through satalites without re-buying before but its unusual

I've never played in a re-buy online tournament. I'm new at buying in period, having spent too much time playing freerolls, but now is the time to make my move and I was thinking, do they offer a better chip deal with the re-buy like they do in live tournaments?

The only re-buy tournaments I've played in were .01 re-buys. These were absolutly absurd. They made freerolls look sane. I don't like re-buys on general principles. THe only one I would consider playing would have to limit re-buys.

yes, i agree with you!

yes, rebuy tournaments can be really frustrating. its even worse in a live tournament. some of the tournament players dont really have a regard for money and have a much larger bankroll than us regular humps. when negreanu can rebuy 27 times to win a tournament last year, who here can afford to do that?! the good thing about rebuys is that it does add a tremendous amount of extra money into the tournament payouts and there is a lot of wild play in the early rounds that might allow someone to accumulate a good chip stack. overall though, i agree with you, and i dont like rebuy tournaments (unless i am in a big guaranteed tourney and just had a bad beat...of course!!)

I agree, rebuys seem not fair, only if you have the bankroll you can win

All good points. Every time I play in an R&A, I make the comment " I hate Rebuy touneys!" multiple times. But, if you can play premium hands and make it through the first hour, you're ok. I have made it through these tourneys before without any rebuys, just by playing premium hands, and slow-playing a lot. What I mean is, I will limp in more often than not, even with top cards, just to make sure the suck-out doesn't happen. If you play the player right, he will still think he has the nuts, that you've been on a draw, and you can get him all in and wipe him out. VERY gratifying!! What you'll notice is that people are very loose early (first 20 minutes), tighten up a bit for 30 minutes, then it seems that everyone is trying to "make a move" before the rebuys end, and play VERY loose for the last 10 minutes of rebuy period. Take advantage of these swings, and you'll do ok in the R&As.

Rebuys are only good if u like a lot of chips on the table, allowing you to recover from a bad beat or a bad read. But u really need a pretty big bankroll for these tourneys in the long run.

I like to play freezeouts. I like the idea that what you have is what you work with. Get a bad beat? Part of the game.
