"Real" World Poker

<I know many fall asleep in long posts, but there are questions at the bottom>

Premise: There are 3 very different games that call themselves poker:

- On-line - with all the advantages of the web (like playing someone around the world)
and all the disadvantages like password thieves, donks, collusion...

- Tournament - face to face across a table - which many of us aspire to

- Recreational - buddies in the garage over beer for quarters or dollars

Question 1: Anyone else prefer their style of play and enjoyment of recreational - or are we all adrenalin prize junkies?

Question 2: NL Hold'em has taken over dealers choice in the garage.
We each buy our chips, and then 1st, 2nd, 3rd share the money at the end. Any other ways to play for money? I don't miss hi-lo Chicago with 8 wild cards - but people hate to sit if they're out early.

As to question 2 -

Why play tourney style? Just play a plain cash game. Then if someone busts they can dig and buy back in.

Now it sounds obvious. Just re-buy the original number of chips for the original buy-in? Won't that just make the busts bigger, and leave someone at the end of the night with all the money from all the rebuys?

In recreation, better if more of us come out close to even; or they won't play with me anymore (assuming I win).

Does not compute.

I don't think I've ever played poker recreationally since I moved from play money to real money. I did have a weekly home game with a couple of friends years ago, we played 5 card draw for happymeal steaks and it was purely for recreation.
But these days, it's all about the profit, the getting better at the game, the owning people, and did I mention the profit?
