Quick Tourney Advice! Hey I know this is dumb since I'm only in a freeroll but I have a question. I'm in the freeroll to the daily dollar. There are 710 people left, and I need tto get to the top 250 to go to the dollar. THe avg stack is 3200 and I have 3800. What type of hands should I be playing? Should I just sit out and hope that makes it? Any advice... thanks!

Your doing well, but I don't think you should sit because once it gets down to about 300 people the average stack will probably be about 6K. If you want to sit out get a 6-10K stack first and play tight aggressive. Mostly play big hands like big pocket pairs and AK AQ. GL, hope to hear you make it.

Thanks flush... I'm still keeping with the average... I just hate playing scared. I don't wanna donk out as I'm pretty positive that I can make the money in the dollar and can hopefully start a bankroll! It's just heartbreaking to always get this far and then screw up or get sucked out on... Will continue to update the thread if my post limit doesn't get reached (it probably will)

Ok, So I'm in the daily Dollar and I'm currently 108 out of 5300. I am doing well and playing only the premium hands. I know that soon I will be getting to that place where I am not sure what to do, so I am trying to build my stack as much as possible now with all of the donks in the beginning. Thanks for everyone's help. I will continue to update if it is possible (stupid post limit)

re: Quick Tourney Advice! poker Once you double up a couple times from the beginning, its pretty easy to cash in the DD freeroll because you dont have to and shouldnt be relying on your cards. Once the blinds are large enough, you should just be shoving from position to keep a medium sized stack. The people you're shoving on should be other medium stacks just hoping to cash, and try to avoid people who are tilting or who you've observed to be calling stations. Otherwise unless your opponent hits one of the top ten hands they arent going to call you down. Picking up the blinds once each rotation keeps you alive with a good stack and affords you time to wait for a bigger hand, and its possible to pick up the blinds more than once per rotation. Hands you should be shoving with against medium stacked tight players near the bubble (500 or less imo): Any pocket pair, any combination of face cards, AT+, and if you're getting short, suited connectors 67s+. Dont get me wrong, even doing everything right dont expect to cash more than a couple times a week at most if you follow this meticulously. The first few double ups can be tough, as can choosing your spots to shove. Its akin to playing minesweeper, there are correct moves always, but its very easy to make a mistake.

Thanks Salim! That really helps. It's just tough to bone up and be the one making the shoves instead of the guy handing over his blinds every other hand. I actually did end up cashing in 100 and something place. Got $5!. Now I'm working on building my bankroll. I've already made a little over a dollar! Thanks for all of the advice. I really appreciate it. |
