Question for Micro Limit Players

Hey, Ive decided to follow Craig Fergusons lead and conduct an experiment, building a miniscule amount of money (1 to 2 dollars) into a decent bankroll. But! as I have never really played at the mini limits, I wanted to know from any of you that do, is it really just an absolutely crazy bet, call, raise anything type of place? or is taken seriously? Im used to being able to use a large money bet to make someones decision for them, so Id just like to know how the micro stakes go.

Thanks,

T

ps. this is a great forum

I assume you mean Chris Ferguson? but as for micro limits go, the lowest stakes ive played is .05/.10 and its taken some what seriously, i mean people run out their drawing hands a lot more... which is understandable i guess... But i think the more loose/aggressive (but not stupid loose) you play at the really low limits the more success you have in terms of money. But it also might hurt in the long run? i dunno, thats based on u... hope i helped some?

good luck

I have sometimes played the really low ($0.01/0.02) stakes tables when new to a site and learning the interface.

The play at that level is usually very loose, and therefore you should play tight, premium hands only. The players are generally not observant and will cheerfully call your raise, not realising that you are playing very few hands and are likely to have a monster.

Do not bluff, because they will call with anything playable.

Do not get greedy. When you have won a little, pocket it and move to another table. Because the other players chase against the odds, they will sometimes hit a miracle card and take the stack you spent an hour building, which is really frustrating.

The standard changes noticeably around $0.10/0.25 to $0.50/1.00 (varies from site to site). Once you get up the limits, there are still plenty of fools about but there are also competent players who just don`t have a lot of cash, or are bumming around waiting for their tourney. Now you have to watch the game closely and get a read on your opponents.

yeah .05/.10 on full tilt is loose but not overly loose in my opinion... people will chase flushes and straights, but most players will not play bullshit hands in hope of getting lucky... occasionally a player will come along, pushing with bottom pair a lot and pushing with draws, and it drives u crazy, just stay away from those tables, and the standard of play should be fairly moderate...

I havent found them 2 loose on pokerstars.

I joined a 0.01/0.02 game yesterday and wanted to practice being very aggressive, everyone got pissed at me raising constantly and they all left the table .

Ive found pokerstars to be a generally tight site at all levels. So if thats what youre looking for, give PS a shot.

But i think crazy loose sites are better to build your bankroll from nothing, wait for premium hands and push.

well thanks guys, i appreciate it. Ive never played at those low levels, so I was just wondering if an adjustment to play was in order, but I think my normal style will do just fine. It sounds like a fun experiment! something to do when ive finished my serious play for the day. And yes, I ment chris, sorry. haha, i type wrong names alot when im ripping through a post.

Some micro-limit players take the game very seriously. A lot are doing exactly what you are doing except they are forced to. Play is very loose and unobservant. You should play it almost exactly like Egon Towst said. 5c/10c isn't nearly as bad as 1c/2c but you still have the morons around. Unless you get a good read on somebody you have to assume that they might play anything.

Also expect pretty big bets...for some people 20x the BB isn't that odd.

I play on the micro's at PokerStars. I pick my table by finding a 8 of 9 table with a % seen the flop of 40% or better and an average pot less than 20BB (too agressive over this) but greater than 4 BB (too tight and fold everything)...always "wait for the BB" and read the others while you are waiting. Yes, you WILL get callers who DON'T have odds to call...but that's A GOOD THING....you WANT to take away odds for drawing, but NOT too much...and be prepared to lay down TPTK because they WILL hit 1 out of three from the river and 1 out of five on the river...just make sure YOU give them 1 to 2.5 and 1 to 4 odds to do so...in the long run you'll make a nice bankroll...trips are big, BIG winners and you can usually double up....Others with AK WILL bet clean to the river unimproved..hitting two pair/str8/flush and you can clean them out...play tight...call when given odds and take away odds for calling when ahead and you'll do fine....oh, and play ultra-ultra tight until you get your bankroll up to $10...you should be bringing the min to the table (usually $1) until then...I like to stick with the 10% or less of total bank roll on the table at anytime...though I have had as much as 25~50%....but only because it "grew while I was there"

I play $.25/.50 at bodog and Absolute. They are about the same. You have good players and fools. Be prepared for your share of bad beats. You'll get them at both sites.
