Question: How much to bet on the Flop?

What percentage of the pot do you make your initial bet after the flop with a Top Pair Top Kicker in first position?

I'm pretty new to poker, I usually go 4-5X the Big Blind preflop for Ace-Jack, sometimes with pairs, limp with everything else.

Should my bet after the flop be based on the Big Blind or the Pot?
and if so, how do I determine the amount?
