Question about PLO Hi... I recently started getting into Omaha Hi and I have a rookie question that needs to be answered: How does the hand play out if their is top two pair on the board? I ask this because i'm aware that you have to use two of your hole cards. Is it automatic split pot playing the whole board or can one of your four cards account for the kicker? Thanks!

All players have to use exactly two of the cards in their hand and three of the board cards to make a hand in Omaha. The board may be paired twice but nobody can play that two pair because they can't use four board cards - they can only play three of them. An example: Player 1: Kc Qc Js 9s Player 2: 6h 6s 8s 9h Board: Ah Ac 3s 7d 7c Player 1 has: Ah Ac Kc Qc 7d Player 2 has: Ah Ac 6h 6s 7d Player 2 wins because he has two pair, aces (from the board) and sixes (from his hand) with a seven (the next highest single board card, which plays as the kicker). Player 1 can't make a second pair so he just plays the two highest cards in his hand (the king and queen) to go with the three highest board cards (the two aces and one of the sevens). For the pot to be split, Player 1 would need to have had the other two sixes in his hand to make an identical two pair hand (aces and sixes with a seven kicker).

re: Question about PLO Hi... poker OzEx explained it well. Unlike Holdem, in Omaha, the cards in your hand can give you a worse hand than the 5 cards on the board. Here's a similar example, but trickier, especially when it lands on the river. Getting your 2 pairs (As & 3s) counterfeited..... Player 1: Ac 3c Js 9s Player 2: 6h 6s Ks Ah Board: 4h As 7s 3d 7c After the turn: Player 1 has: Ac As 3d 3c 7s (kicker) (winning) Player 2 has: Ah As Kc 7s 6h On the river: Player 1 has: As Ac 7s 7c Js (kicker) Player 2 has: As Ah 7s 7c Ks (kicker) and wins.
