| Question about a live ring game When I decide to try a live game (all online so far), the closest casino to me has a $5/$10 game. I asked what the buy in was, and he said $50 minimum. That seems absurdly low to buy in to a $5/$10 game. As a rookie sitting down at my first live game, what would be an appropriate amount to buy in to that game? |

I bet you're right. That's the smallest game they have at the casino that's the shortest drive, so that's the first one I asked about. I know there's other poker rooms in Indiana, with a new place opening up in August that is right across the border. I have to think I can find smaller games there. ETA: There's a $50 Min $200 Max No Limit ($1-$2 Blinds) game at Majestic star. I wonder if that's about as modest as I will find to see what live poker is all about. |

| I think this also depends on LHE or NLHE. I played at a 2/4 LHE in Vegas with a $40 buy-in. I tightened up big time for the first few rounds and did pretty well. For 5/10, I would think you would want at least 100 though. If its 5/10 NLHE... just stay home... er, I mean... |

You could comfortably sit in a 2/4 Limit game with $100 and play for a few hours easily (unless you run real cold). |

You should be buying in 25 BB's for every live limit game, with another 25 in your pocket. The more you have to play with, the better you'll play. If you can only play w/ $200 total, that limit too big. Starting out at that limit totally depends on BR. If that's the lowest limit they spread, then there are most likely very bad players sitting. If you can handle the swings, and have an edge over your opponents... definitely play! |

25 BB's buy in is enough, buying another 12 BB or so, when you get below 12 BB. |

| Always play the max in NL ring games... as for limit i dont know cuz i never play. If you dont buy in for the max in no limit you will be bullied around and be considered as a person who cant afford to lose all of his chips so you will be constantly raised and re-raised by opponents. Always mask a large BR even if your just goin for a good time. GL and have fun... settle yourself in and dont play hands for the first little while. make yourself comfortable with the people your playing and there tendencies before making any moves. Cheers |

1. New players don't know if you're stuck, may actually think you're big winner... that definitely plays a role in their thinking of you. 2. If you go on a heater, you'll have 4-5 racks in front of you. 3. You, as well as your oppnts., get used to seeing tons of chips in front of you. 4. When cashing out, you'll always have more than rack in your hands, which can mentally make you feel better when you leave stuck (and will "train" oppnts. to think of you as big winner). |
