Question about dealer button when SB and BB go out OK, hopefully someone will know the answer to this situation that came up in one of our live homegames? In a hand, both the SB and BB went out, so the very next hand the dealer button moved to where the SB had been previously, even though it was dead. So in theory, the previous BB was now the SB(even though he was out) and the person next to him was BB. So far, so good, I hope? Onto the next hand, to where does the dealer button go? I said to the next 'live' person, so, in effect, the one next to the original BB from the first hand, some people agreed, but some argued that that would mean someone missing a BB, and that the dealer should go to the dead BB from the first hand. If Ive confused you, im sorry, I will try to make it clearer: Seat 1: Dealer Seat 2: SB Seat 3: BB Seat 4 Seat 5 Seat 6 Seat 7 so seat's 2 and 3 went out, so the dealer button moves to seat 2 next hand, there's no SB, just a BB at seat 4. Where does the dealer button go next hand? My understanding was that it went to seat 4, therefore meaning that seat 5 misses a BB. is this right? BTW this isnt a problem about who actually deals the cards, as I was dealer for the night, its about posting the SB/BB Last edited by KerouacsDog : 13th May 2008 at 6:17 PM. Reason: added the BTW for clarification

You really should try to minimize people missing blinds as much as possible. I would have had the button move to seat 3 for hand #2 and seat 4 is the small blind seat 5 is the BB. That is the way it would be handled using the dead button rule. Sounds like you think it should be the dead button rule for hand 1 but moving button for hand 2. You weren't short-stacked on seat 5 by chance were you?

re: Question about dealer button when SB and BB go out poker I dealt NLHE tourneys last summer at a local casino, so this should be reliable information. This is for games playing with a dead button. After placing the button at Seat 2 (the former SB); Seat 3 would be a dead/empty SB, and Seat 4 would be the only position paying the BB. In the next hand the button would go to Seat 3 with a dead button, Seat 4 would pay the SB and Seat 5 would pay the BB. After completing the 2 hands with dead buttons, the next hand all blinds would be back to normal. If you play a tourney with a live button or a cash game, the button would move to Seat 4. Seat 4 would post the BB. Seat 5 would post the BB. And Seat 6 would post the BB. The next hand the button would move to Seat 5. Seat 4 would post the SB, Seat 5 would post the SB, Seat 6 would post the SB, Seat 7 would post the BB. Once again, after completing these 2 strange blind hands, in the 3rd hand the blinds would be back to normal. You can find this information in the Professional Poker Dealer's Handbook published by Two Plus Two, 2+2 Books : Professional Poker Dealer's Handbook by Mason Malmuth, Dan Paymar, Donna Harris : TwoPlusTwoStore.com - The Best in Poker/Gambling Books. I hope that helps.

no their would be a SB and BB I am talking in a live game without a dealer that is how it would work. it seamed that that was the easist way to explain it, guess not. bottom line play continues as if they are their. if seat 3 is the SB and their is no one at seat three then obviously thier is only a BB you never shift the blinds unless it doens't affect the natural rotation of blinds!!!!!
