Pros making money exclusively by MTT ???

Hi all.

Do you guys know if any of the pros make their money exclusivley playing MTT`s?

I`m sure now and then they play cash games, SNG`s, etc, but I`m on about when they make a living.

Cash games are the living. There's players who play only MTTs but they would have to cash over half the time to make any kind of living. (It also depends on their lifestyle too) I think most people play the MTTs and win a big one, that gives them enough to live off of for awhile, but the cash games are the games that brings home the funds on a daily basis.

I disagree there plenty of people that make a living off of online tournaments. If the name PEARLJAMMED doesn't first come to mind when reading then post then maybe you should look the Raleigh native up. Throw these names into the list as well: Annette_15, Imper1um and Johnnybax.

Its not possible to cash over half the time in MTTs over the long run. There are a bunch of pros that play MTTs for their main profit (I'm sure they probably play cash too, but their main profits are from MTTs). These players probably don't even cash 1/6 of the time because they play to go deep, where the big money is, not to just cash.

I think the average cash rate for MTT's is 10%. 19% is considered to be extremely good. I have a 19.4% cash rate career in MTT's so that's not too shabby IMO.

Average cash rate should be around 15%-20% with the new pokerstars structure (which sucks btw). But yes, there are lots and lots of people making their money off MTTs, even in mid stakes, and no, most of them don't mess around with cash games.

I'd say the average ITM was the same as the average payout structure Somewhere around 15%...and yes there are plenty of mtt pros.

It would be an interesting List eh?

Does Cardplayer or any other site rank Pros by a percentage of games/tables/limits that they play? It would be interesting to see just how they each breakdown their bankroll to specific games. I would think most would be 60% cash games and 40% tournaments, but I could be wrong.

Is there anywhere to look to find out?

It's easy to make a living exclusively playing tournaments when one of the online poker sites is funding your entry fees.

There are a few names that come to mind who seem / claim to have made most of their money from live MTTs, even before the intertron poker book. Hellmuth is probably the most famous example. Chris Ferguson claims to have rarely played cash games. Phil Gordon claimed that he expected a $30,000 return on every $10,000 he spent on tournament buy-ins and that's where most of his (poker) money has come from.

I play on ultimate bet a lot and I see a few pros playing high staked sitngos but I see more playing High staked MTTs. Ultimate bet gets their pros to do this but I think their making their money more on cash and sits.

I think live players depend more on cash games than on MTT's. But since there are big MTT's online everyday, there are probably pro's that can make a living just of those, like pearljammed. Never seen him on a table.

I'd stick with the tournaments, I dont do that well in cash games. Maybe once I get better at the game.
