Is it possible to win a MTT without good cards???

Hi chaps, hope you are all well.

I know the above might sound a silly question, but I`ll let u know why I`m asking.

I`ve been going through my results recently. After a bad spell I`m starting to claw back losses made this year. I have made the losses by playing ring games, a game for some reason I can`t get my head around

I am starting to fight back on the SNG front - I got 2 big for my boots and I played at 2 high a level for my bankroll and the way I played was with `scared` money.

On the MTT scene I`m doing ok cash wise, but as I like to play 4 sites my ladder standing is not as good as it could be if I just played one site.

Anyway, I`m rambling!!!

My strategy at the moment for playing SNG`s is very tight early on. If I catch a good hand early and double up I will stay tight apart for possibly playing sooooooooted connectors in late position. I will do this until the blinds get to about 100/50 when playing with starting chips of 1500. I then go into steal mood, obviously picking my time - as long as I still have a big stack.

MTT I`m even tighter!!! Solid until I get into the cash, then depending on my chip stack and the cash I will decide to push all in or steal or even stay tight until the final table.

A long winded way of getting to my point!!!

Do you guys think I could be missing a trick here by being to `card reliant`? I have tried to loosen up and remember raising in late position with a big chip stack midway through a tourny with 64h and hitting a monster flop of 2h3h5d. However, this is the exception rather than the rule!!!

Any thoughts guys???

when your card dead and you lose say half your chips, then its time to start playing differently, looser, more bluffs and aggresive. you can only play tight for so long before getting blinded out,, So, Yes you can win with crappy cards.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> buck

I`m talking about 100+ MTT and 10 seater SNG`s

I agree that if you play 6 players or less the cards are going to play less of a part because pocket cards will go up in rating any way.

This question might go back to the old one of how often do you get into the money playing 100+ MTT and do you play to win or to place.

I know one of the famous poker pros said something like "Sometimes to live you must be prepared to die!!!"

My question is how many lives do you need?

I find Stef that if I go into aggressive mode I always feel I get caught - unless I already have a large stack. I know your style is an aggressive one, but as yet I find it hard to deal with the ups and downs.

I also find that in a close situation I make the wrong decision. In one of the CC games I was UTG with A6d and I had about 6 times bb left. I was so close to pushing. Can`t remember who acted after me but it was one of the girls. She put in a large raise with 99 I think (full table) you said "time to gamble" and pushed with K10o. flop was something like K66. Turn A, river A. (results orientated I know.

Last Friday, same tourny, I`m left with about 6 times bb. at cut off, AJ. I push. Get called by one of the guys who turns AQ (he had about 4 times my stack) he catches FH.

So when to gamble or when not to gamble, that is the question!!!

You need lots of lives to win with crap cards, thats where your skill and luck come in, anybody can win with great cards, buck
Just look at Jamie Gold last year, the guy was so lucky so many times it was unbelievable, everything was going his way
