I'm not sure it's possible to stay ahead of the rake at any microlimit tables anywhere.

It's possible, it's just that the variance is huge. It might not or just barely be possible in the long run if the fee is ridiculous (like Party's micro SNGs where they take something like 33% juice, but you said Stars where the fee is reasonable, so this is pretty irrelevant).

Yes it's possible. Fold for half an hour and then start pushing...

I play the micros all the time. I find that it is usually easy money and I don't have to pay a lot of attention. You can run into a lot of good players at the .10/.25 tables but there are still enough fish to make it very profitable.

look at that, it does. lol
Then definitely yes. Very easy to place ITM consistantly in the $1 - $5 SNGs if you play TAG.

Is that table rake, or your personal contributions to the rake?

I think that's just me. The total rake for all those hands was like $500. But it doesn't seem possible that I've payed more than half of it. Time for some investigation.

If it's table rake you haven't done bad - the next question is how much time did you invest (ROI)? When i figure out I have been earning less than minimum wage, I tell myself - well at least it is better than a kick in the crotch.

if you figure you have paid more than half the rake - investigation is definitely due!

My Mrs has now got 500 x $1 sngs under her belt with a 14% ROI and $80 profit. She is a novice, so it is definately possible.

I have to bite my tongue at times when looking over her shoulder, but essentially she keeps it very simple.

I have only ever given her a few pointers (along the lines of not overcommiting pre-flop, not-overvalueing post-flop, patience in relation to stack size VS blinds, a little basic pot-odds etc). All very basic stuff. And she has stuck to that without getting overly greedy in terms of moving up levels, and as a result she has done well.
