Pokers gonna kill me.

About 20 months ago, I started dabbling with online poker. Slowly at first, but by last spring I was hooked, lined and sunk!

I am still working off Freeroll wins, and vow to never deposit my own hard earned, physically earned money.

But that isn't how poker will kill me.

About the same time, and proportionatly to how much I play, my smoking went up. The more I play, the more I smoke. 2 packs a day is normal. I have hit 3 packs a day.

Of late I have slowed down my playing and my game has improved. Not sure if that is because I was playing too much or I just got better. Maybe they a symbiotic. With the slowdown has been a reduction in smoking, largely cause work has arrived. But when playing I still smoke after a great hand (yeah, it's just like sex for this old guy). I still light up a lot when my stack gets big (just like the old days). And of course after I made any all in bet I sit back light up, and await the out come.

Who says smoking isn't sexy? Seriously though, it would be like the guy who gets hit by a car and killed walking accross the street to buy cigarettes. He would be listed as a smoking related death.

fixed your post.

Don't quite know what to tell you; telling a smoker to quit is like telling a kid not to eat candy.

My grandmother died because of smoking-induced cancer (RIP), and my dad is dying. What a sexy habit.

Quit while you still can; if not for you, then for your kids and/or friends :/

Off-topic perhaps, but if you want to smoke less while playing I recommend the brand American Spirit. It has no additives at all, so you're not smoking chemical crap. But equally important: Your body will absorb more nicotine from the cigarette which will make you want to smoke less of it. And it tastes much better than other brands.

I get what u mean Dj11, I tend to smoke alot while playing especially after a huge win. I guess its all because of the adrenaline or nervousness or whatever lol. Anyway yeah its a great feeling man and seriously dont worry bout the smoking, Id advise you to quit but I know u wont hahaha and plus im a smoker too (though im still young :P) and I wont quit either so there. My theory is... enjoy your life, if your times up you gotta go, doesnt matter if you drink a barrel of beer a day or smoke a carton of ciggarettes, when your number is up, byebye. Btw my grandpa came close to doing that and he lived till he was almost 80 lol.

You might want to try some type of substitute, like sunflower seeds or something.

Smoking is a problem, I too smoke too much while playing online. I haven't come up with a way to quit but here are a couple of ways to slow t down. I tried to take breaks and just smoke outside but it didn't work. I will place my smokes on the other side of the room though so I don't unconsiously light up, this does help.

Fascinatingly I can play in a live casino for hours and not even want a smoke. Go figure

Excuse me while I light up to try to contemplate these replys.

I am not trying to defend smoking. I would be rich if I wasn't a smoker.

Yep, think of the bankroll:

$3.00 (I'm assuming you get them this cheap somehow) per pack x 3 times per day, time 365 days in a year = $3,285.

Why not give yourself an incentive to quit-- buy poker books every week you don't smoke. In a year your library will be bigger than mine ! Or buy your self into a $50+5 tournament every week.

Smokes in my country only cost bout USD1.25 a pack hahahahahaha. But we make less money so I guess it evens out. Its tough to quit brutus you are right, especially for people like me whos been doing it for ages. Best I ever did was stop 2 weeks when I had my appendics taken out. Then i started again.

i dont think he started this thread as any more than to poker fun at himself. he's grown and can make his own decisions. im sure he knows how terrible cigarettes are for him.

i will tell you, though, that the physical addiction to smoking is broken in 3 days. everything else is mental. break the habit. buy lots of gum & sunflower seeds. keep your hands and mouth busy with those and you wont have to worry.

i'm lucky to have such great will power though. i occasionally smoke socially with friends when drinking for the multiplier effect, but have never once thought if buying them when not drunk.
