Poker Tracker stats discrepancy?
During current Hold'em session you were dealt 22 hands and saw flop:
- 3 out of 3 times while in big blind (100%) - 0 out of 3 times while in small blind (0%) - 2 out of 16 times in other positions (12%) - a total of 5 out of 22 (22%) Pots won at showdown - 1 of 2 (50%) Pots won without showdown - 0 These are the stats I get from the PokerStars stats button. At this particular table I did not ask if anyone else was using Poker Tracker. But I have been asking lately and it seems as if PT is pretty inaccurate. Typically PT will say my VPIP is higher than what the PokerStars site stats report. AG tells me it is easy to change from opponents overall stats to just the current table stats. I have not found enough willing strangers to share that much info with me, but AG was helpful for a brief while yesterday before one of us moved. From the above stats I would guess that your Poker Tracker stats on my would show my VPIP higher than what I show there. In the range of 25% higher. In this particular case I got 3 walks in the BB. AG advises that Poker Tracker does not include BB walks in VPIP stats. According to my understanding of PT (I don't have it) VPIP means a voluntary, conscious decision to either call or raise. So not adding walks makes sense. So far this is not scientific enough to make heads or tails, and it could be my interpretation of something I am not familiar with (Poker Tracker), or it could be faulty stats reported by PT, or somehow PT is taking stats from previous encounters, even though some current table switch is on. I will understand anyones first impulse to tell me to take this to the Poker Tracker folks, but before I do that I would like to enlist your help with just exactly I would be taking to the PT folks. |

Yep, what WVH says. VP$IP is voluntarily put $ in pot, by Poker Tracker definition you didn't volunteer to post the blind, and you didn't know your cards before you posted. Once you've seen your cards, in any other position than the BB in a walk, you have to choose to continue to play. I don't know how it handles posting the blind out of turn.

DJ, let me know when you want to track some stats and we can try to figure this one out. I have a exam this Saturday (until 12:00 MST) so any time after that I would be available. Poker Tracker stats should always be lower than Stars stats for the reason give above that a blind isn't voluntarily putting money in, as long as you check - if you raise or call a raise then yes.

ViP and seen flops are different stats. In the BB you can see a flop without putting in any more money than the blinds. There are alot of ways you can be ViP without seeing a flop. You might raise PF and win the hand outright, or you might limp into a pot and fold to a raise, or raise and fold to a RR for that matter.
