Poker superstitions

So, does anyone here have any poker superstitions? You know the type of things, good luck charms, reluctance to sit in a particular chair in a cash game, lucky shirt, whatever...

I have a couple. I use the same card maker every time I play - a gold poker chip I won in a tournament. It was my first live tourney win and it seems to have brought me very good luck. Even when I play online, I have it sitting on the desk. The other superstition I have is (and I'm giving away what a horrible donk I am) I will never fold an 8/3 os pre-flop unless there is a raise. There's a story behind that, but I won't bore you all with it :P

I agree with that one. Not because of a story, just because 8's & 3's like each other... A LOT. I can't count how many 838 883 338, or 333 888 flops I've seen. K4 the same. Again, as you said, only with no PF raise. I'll limp into them as often as I can.

edit: My next hand after typing this respone was 8-5os (folded since no 3) board 8-8-4-5-A, next board 3-8-5-5-7, next board (blank), next board 3-3-4 (bluffed into and won), next (blank), next 10-K-4-A-4, I'll stop now, but these are litteraly the hands dealt as I typed.

I'm under the belief that certain seats draw bad cards, others good, during certain hours of the day. Online of course. In a live game that would be just crazy! lol

It's bad luck to be superstitious.

My superstition is that it's bad luck to have my money in the pot when I don't have the best hand. Similarly I'm very superstitious in baseball as well, I believe it's bad luck to have less runs than the other team when the game is over.

But in all seriousness, I wear the same hat every time I play, my high school baseball hat (although it's currently the only one I have with me, it'll be a dilemma when I get my college hat which one to wear). In the 6-7 cash game sessions I've played I had one losing session. There was also one session in which I didn't wear my hat. Guess which session that was? Also if I'm listening to music and I lose a big hand I change the song. This I think may actually do some good because it helps me mentally, I also try to pick one that'll calm me down a bit. I've still felt myself tilt but I think that can help prevent it.

That's a good superstition to have.

BTW, when I play on line, the window is to my left. It is only when I am playing live games that I care if the sun is in my eyes or not.

I have a full Tilt cap I wear whilst playing sit and Go's. I just seem to run better with it on.

Also I hate raising 3 hands in a row at a full table. I mean if i get KK, AK, AA in a row I will raise with all 3 but i still dont like it, its like the game is trying to get me in trouble!

i like sit in seat 4 at every table i play and if it is not available i will not play at that table. only because the first table i sat at was on seat 4 and i quadroupled my stack in the first 3 hands

Got my "lucky" shirt and never fold J 3 pre flop unless raised 3BB or more.

Now just to find out how to make that shirt luckier....

durrr i hate players who have to use a card protector that brings no luck at all nobody can make luck its mental to think by wearing a lucky shirt it will be an automatic win come on people

next you'll be telling me santa, the easter bunny and jesus aren't real too.

May sound crazy and I have missed a few bucks but I absolutly refuse to play the hand before my big blind. Think it all started a few years ago when I noticed getting AA and KK busted several times while in that position.

All you have noticed is that it is hard to play in first position. If you don't play any hands at all from this position, you may be passing some opportunities, especially in later stages of a tournament.

Also, 2nd position at a full table is not much better. How can you draw a sharp line?

I know this is going to sound so strange, but I'll never play in shorts! It could be 100 degrees but it's just not going to happen. I never seem to win while I'm wearing them, I just can't figure out why. It's not like my game changes, but for some reason, my luck seems to.

For the record, I don't think any of us are really superstitious enough to believe these silly habits we have are REALLY helping. Most of us are reasonable enough people to know better. But I think that ifthese types of habits make us more comfortable at the poker table, then it can only help our game... certainly it won't hurt it.

Certainly not...I would never tell you santa and the easter bunny weren't real.

Oh and as for the dog that's not superstition thats called conditioned response....Maslov did numerous studies on this.
