Poker rules, Sidepots and deciding hands. First post here. Hello all I have doubts about the way a hand was decided yesterday at a league game. 3 people to the end, main pot and 1 side pot. The guy who wins with a straight is the guy who didn't have enough to see myself and player 2. So he gets the main pot. *fine* So then i'm left with player 2, he has pair jacks and i have pair queens. Now as far as i understand i win the side pot, however i was told by the tourney organiser that because we both had loosing hand to player 1 we had to split the pot. Am i missing something? i'm sure this wasn't the way it's decided on the 4 different online sites i've played on! Is this correct? Thanks Andy.

Welcome to CC Andy! BTW: You are right, the QQ should take the side pot... EXCEPT when: player 1 [Kh2s] Andy [Qd 7h] Player 2 [ Jd 6s] Board [9d Th Jc Qs 8h] Player 1 wins main pot with str8 - 9 through K Andy and Player 2 split side pot with str8 - 8 through Q

And this is exactly why Robert's Rules of Poker specifically states that all sidepots are settled in order. So if there is a main pot and two sidepots in play, Sidepot #2 is decided between the folks in it and push the chips to them. Then Sidepot # 1 is decided and pushed out, finally then the main pot is decided. Had they done this correctly to begin with, there wouldn't have been a screw up. And you'll notice that this is how it is done online and in live play as well. I suggest you print off Robert's Rules of Poker, highlight the section, and bring it along next time so that they won't continue to make that same mistake.

A manager who's about to get a roasting from the Redtooth poker main man. Like me he's not a happy bunny! They have the option to use a poker dedicated helpline to decide issues that arise but this cock decided he knew the rules. he's arrogant! He threatened to bar me from playing a game once because i asked where the chips were the cock! I've got another 5 weeks then i'm moving to another pub for the next season. If i can hold on to first place i'm through to regionals!

re: Poker rules, Sidepots and deciding hands. SUggest you keep your wits about you, and point out the guys mistake. If your league has rules, this incident should be covered. Or there should be reference to what rules would apply. Robert's Rule's being the standard. He has a boss, somewhere, find that boss, discuss the situation, ask that the person who made that rule be made aware of the bad decision. Flipping out will solve nothing, except possibly where you will spend the night.
