Poker Question.?

I've been playing poker for awhile and people have their different opinions on how to play. my question is if there is a "higher suit"? I've researched it for hours and it says there aren't, but those that I play with say that there is a higher suit, one says it's heart and the other says it's spade.


please please help me out. i would very much appreciate it :]

Seriously tho, I dont think so. In games a royal flush hearts would split the pot with a royal flush spades.... (Im going on hearsay, I have not actually seen a RF twice in on hand........ in any suit, actually...... and not that much once either....)

u can only it 1 kind of royal in a single hand. if it all appears on the board then its splits. suits arent ranked either. the only time the suit matters is when the dealer button is determined b4 a tourney when ace of spades is highest.

I was speaking in terms of stud or 5-card draw poker above, I guess its mainly nlhe here, but pkt AA against pkt AA is a split pot as long as no one hits the flush, regardless of suit. I know some people like to play dealers choice, but I have never seen that in the internet - dont mean it aint there, i just never seen it - so in my experience suits are equal, at least in the internet poker rooms I have seen.

Since Ive always assumed it is no other way, it will be interesting if anyone knows of personalized games in the net??

The order of the suits is reverse-alphabetical: so highest to lowest it's spades, hearts, diamonds then clubs.

Thing is though, the only* time you use it in standard poker games is determining who has to pay the bring-in during stud games. If you're playing regular seven card stud, one player is showing 2h as their up card and one player is showing 2c, the player with the 2c pays the bring-in because clubs are lower than spades.

The reverse works for razz. If the highest up card is a queen, one player is showing Qs and one player is showing Qd then the one with Qs brings in because they've got the higher card.

Suits don't determine winners at showdown in stud though. If two players manage to make royal flushes then they chop the pot - it only affects the bring-in.

* Possible exception: some live tournaments might also use high card by suit as a tie breaker for things like determining who gets the odd chip during a colour up.

i thought the clubs was the higher suit. i have no clue what happens in razz or stud.
