Poker Movies

Any good poker movie recommendations?

21, Bookies, Bugsy, California Split, Casino Royale, Casino, Croupier, High Roller, House of games, Oceans 13, Oceans 11, Oceans 12, The Cooler, The Grand, The Sting. And THE COLOR OF MONEY is the Pool Hall Movie. Some are very old but are all great movies.

There doesn't seem to be very much option when it comes to poker movie

I agree and the ones that I saw, were very bad! The last one I saw was Lucky You and it was awful!!

Rounders would be my favorite hands down.

Rounders is a great poker movie by far

The Grand was a decent poker movie. Cheeseball comedy.

Don't forget short lived ESPN TV series now available on DVD set - "Tilt"

He said poker movies.... these are movies that have a very loose and small connection to poker, if at all...
There is no poker in Oceans films (a little blackjack)...and most of the other films have 1 hand or 5 mins of poker, they arent poker films..
Surprised you didnt mention Wierd Science, has more poker in it than Oceans films..

Actually, there's a short poker scene early on in Oceans Eleven where Rusty is teaching poker to the Hollywood kids - then Danny sits in and delivers one of the best slowroll lines ever ("I'm not sure what four nines does, but the ace, I think, is pretty high?"). IIRC there's some short poker scenes in Oceans Thirteen too.

Agree absolutely though, they're hardly "poker movies". If we were judging by those standards, then Poseidon and In Time would be poker movies too

Yeah but you can't have any respect for what "Rusty" is supposed to be teaching them, why wasnt he giving them all a complete bollocking when they all flat called Dannys raise, utter crap...

I love the Oceans films, but there are many parts like most Hollywood movies that get dumbed down for the audience, like when Livingston Dell is explaining to Rusty and Danny how Blackjack works, "the idea is to get 21"... Like as if Danny and Rusty dont know that, its to dumb it down for the audience.

i remember this, I been trying to find it b/c I never got to finish watching

21 is a black jack movie but worth watching iMO

Shade is also pretty good

So glad no one has mentioned "Shade." That movie makes me angry. Violently angry.

My bad. lol. jlabruno's post wasn't there when I was going to post, but got caught up with work before submitting and his post squeezed in there.


Dunno how any poker player can like that movie. The way they play poker in that movie is so absurd it makes me angry.

Sorry I just like Stallone in the movie. Like his acting in most movies. Still Rounders by far my favorite

Of the mentioned movies, "Rounders" is my favorite! lol

I have seen Rounders and Deal.

Rounders was a lot better because it was more about actually playing poker.

Deal was still a good movie, except it was more about the players journey from an internet satellite winner to going to the WPT.

It was cool because Antonio, Laak, and a bunch of other pros had a few scenes in the movie.
