| Off the top of my head 77 = walking sticks 55 = Presto Nice list - how bout some names for "completed" hands too. Obviouly Broadway and Wheel for top and bottom straights - what else is there? I just heard one from a guy for a set of kings that is too inappropriate and politcally incorrect for me to mention. |

| Yup...I was incorrect Quote:
"Walking Back To Houston" or "Anna Kournikova"Ace King was famously nicknamed after tennis player Anna Kournikova by Vince Van Patton during commentary during an episode of the WPT because the hand "looks great but never wins". A Q "Big Chick"In Texas this hand is known as Doyle Brunson. |

| FWIW, it's usually best not to actually use these names - ever. Noobs won't have any idea what you're talking about, and pretty much everyone who does know what you're talking about will think you're a toolbox for using them. Only a very limited audience will think you're cool for using them |

| I might not be paying attention when I play at my card room (cash or mtts), I rarely hear anyone using these terms except for big slick But I also play in a live league where the dealers throw around these terms all the time, I had no clue what he meant by Dolly parton, or snowmen, but for the 7's I thought they said hockey sticks or somekind of sticks, no one says sunset strip but I PLAY LEAGUE TONIGHT IF I GET 77 Im gonna throw out sunset strip and see if it flies. IN fact Im gonna sound like a geek tonight Ill look at my pockets and say HMM IM travelling down SUNSET STRIP wanna throw in some chips for gas money WOOOO! I have to save this list, so I will know what Im laughin at next time LOL |

| I remember being bummed out on one hand - had 55 and hit a 5 on the flop. I guess the guy was on a flush draw because after I bet the river he folded and my opportunity to say "Presto!" was gone. But yeah - I really can't remember any players using these terms much - dealers yes but not players (unless they are like in their seventies - lol) But bottom line there's only one nickname I really care about - THE NUTZ! |

The league consist of all age players all levels so the older people caught some of these but REALLY SOME OF THESE NEED TO BE UPDATED , I barely remember union oil being called 76 and people younger than me had no clue what I was asking. One of the better players turned over a QT and I said ahh playing a QUINT and he had no clue what I was saying. SPeedlimits are closer to 65 but most knew about 55. NOBODY ever heard 3's being called crabs so the king crab was dismissed 77= Sunset strip sombody said OH yea some tv show from the 70s called sunset strip 77 also same with the 99 name from a tv show. Basically the older players knew some of these and some were just out there, NOBODY admitted knowing santa barbra was big slick. or the bigger name for AQ The Q3 joke must be known everybody was asking me about that one and sure enough it was the on the list The told a few others but I didnt write them down, when I get them Ill throw them up and see BUt really they need to modernize the names of some of these hands for the 2000's |

| re: poker hand names ALso looked through list NO one could figure out MAverick = QJ what am I missing here same with Q7 People my age barely remember 76 being the big orange ball, the older players had to remember and the younger players had no clue why union oil was 76 People got most of the non pairs except for Flat tires - Oldmobile took a little thought from some, WHATs up with 45 no one said jessie sames or Jane russell Only one older dude got the 39 on Jack Benny but i forget why NO KNEW GOING BACK TO HOUSTON and I kept telling people when I folded, well I AINT GOING BACK TO HOUSTON. People also referred to 88 as Handcuffs OK I think I remembered all that was said tonight. I said dude youre playing a QUINT, they thought I was a nut |

| IM kinda sorta new to poker so a lot of these fly over my head too, Walking back to houston is AQ and WHY? Its probably obvious but just right now its not to me DANG what type of games yall playing where you call QQ Whores, I dont think that would fly in the league or card room since a lot of woman play. I have learned never to trust OR TALK to those older ladies before a MTT start, they do nothing but read you and abuse you the whole tourny cause I thought I was being nice to grandma I didnt know I was exposing my whole playing form LOL I did get to say WOW Sunset strip vs Barbara Feldon and no one got it. I was a rambling fool tonight. |

| I dont use any names at all. AA is pocket aces, 27 is shit I fold oop or raise if I have a wimp to my left. I use names for the people at my table. The cards are just cards. I am old enough to know what a lot of the names mean or where they come from. I just cant be bothered. Not trying to dis anyone who uses names, I just dont. Spam count +1 |

This is why most people just avoid using alternative hand names in the first place - the meaning or joke is usually obscure, and once you have to explain it then it becomes even less cool / funny. I suspect this is also the reason nobody has bothered trying to modernise them. |
