Poker Coaches

Does anyone use a poker coach?

I'm seriously considering trying to find a poker coach. I have seen some links to poker coaches on Ed Miller's Blog but I'm assuming those folks would be pretty expensive.

I'd really appreciate any input you folks have on this at all.

I dont know how I feel about paying for a poker coach but I am definitely still looking for a sort of "buddy coach". I watch him/her play they watch me play and we critique each others games. That I think is better, I feel poker is one of those games that as long as your buddy knows the game and is profitable, you can learn a whole lot and make your game so much better.

What i used to do when i played online was , I would call up my buddy and have him play and not tell him what i have. He was an achieved player and worked our games out well. I am getting back into online for the FTOPS and taking a break from the casino.

I will be glad to help you out for alot less then any other poker coach. I make about 6k a month playing live i can help with the following:

Bankroll management
semi bluffs / bluffing
implied odds and math
Tournament poker

i have a friend of mine, actually a couple friends that we play live games together. they are more experienced players so i always go to them for advice when we play. how could i have played certain hands better etc. its good to have. paying for a poker coach, no thanks

The way to get a poker coach is to give them a percentage of you instead of paying for them. You could pay and they dont do anything for you or you give them a percentage and you win a couple tournaments and they get what the tought you

Yeah, it looks like these dudes are pretty damn expensive. I think I'll pass.

I do have a buddy of mine who plays online alot but he's more of an intuitive player and doesn't study like I do. I'm always yelling at him to read more...

I was part of a group talking to a person in the Poker Hall of Fame. The subject of coaching came up in the discussion. He quoted $1,000/hr.

I also talked to some less persons, but still well known. There rates were in the hundreds per hour range.

A well known internet player quoted $500 for a 3-4 hour block.

I am sure there are less expensive coachs available...

I think a poker buddy about your own strength is a great - you help each other learn. When my brother is in town, one of us will play while the other watches and comments. With two computers it's easy for the non-player to review previous hands and we can talk about them while they're fresh. Since we have different styles and different strong and weak points, we learn a lot from each other.

I decided to give PokerXFactor a shot. It was between them and Cardrunners. I liked that you can upload HH's to their site and they can be replayed with their animated HH player. It's alot like PT's or PO's hand analyzer but you can upload the history directly for others to see and replay. The only problem I found with them is that after signing up I saw that most of their videos are of high buyin MTT's and SNG's. There's alot I will learn from those for sure but I was hoping there would be more of a mix like Cardrunners. I'll give them a go for a bit and possibly give Cardrunners a shot later.

Btw, the cost for PokerXFactor (for those that may be interested) is $25 per month with an initial signup fee of $145. For Cardrunners it was the same monthly but signup was $99.

Yeah, it's pretty damn pricey but I am finding it really fits my learning style. I have always been purdy good at that book learnin stuff but I have always been much quicker to learn by observation and lectures.
