Poker Card Guards?

Hi all, I just had a question about card guards...
I was wondering if you are allowed to use a poker chip as a card guard? I am considering taking one of my chips and painting a cool desing on it and using it as a card guard. I realize that when I play home games noboy would have a problem with it, but I was curious if anybody knew there was a certain rule that wouldn't allow it during like wsop/WPT etc? The only reason I would think it wouldn't be allowed is it may confuse the other players at the table as to if it was an actual chip of value at the tournament.

Alot of players use chips encased in glass or plastic as a card protector. They're bigger of course and probably wouldnt lead to confusion. Im not so sure however using just another chip not in circluation in the tourney.

I'm not sure about wpt, but i do know that the wsop does alow them, alot of places do alow them, but do check with the house before putting it on the table, or just ask the dealer at the table

It's pretty common. It's also pretty common for somebody to ship it with the rest of their chips - I have. Got it back most of the times - just not the last time.

i think its best to stay a way from using a chip-

if you plan on using it at a casino or a home game that isnt at your house

It`s usually a matter for the Tournament Director`s judgement as to what is or isn`t allowed on the table. They tend to allow most things, and I have seen some pretty strange bits and pieces used.
