Poker After Dark: Hellmuth I was watching poker after dark, the cash game, and in the episode, mike baxter had KK and was up against phil helmuth... If Im remembering this correctly, At the end of the hand, Phil declared that Baxter had slow played him and basically was saying how every pro was watching and like making fun of Baxter for slow playing Helmuth... Isn't slow playing a perfectly reasonable strategy that Helmuth does all the time? Did i just misunderstand what he was saying? Anyone know what he was saying?

actually he said slow rolling which is kind of disrespectful basically he made it seem like he thought his hand was the worst when in reality it was uber strong and Hellmuth thought it was a jerk thing to do look up slow rolling on google for a real definition

Ive just been watching those eps and lol'd when he stropped like that As i remember Baxter bet probably 3/4 of the pot on the river after betting on the flop and turn. Slow roll my bum lol This was after Hellmuth had tried to slow play AK and David Peats QT had made him a straight on the river a hand which he went on about for the rest of the show lol. Hellmuth is a good player but sometimes he just talks utter rubbish

re: Poker After Dark: Hellmuth Love him or hate, Phil is one of the greatest tournament players in history. I didn't see the episode you were reefering (sp? lol!) to but... Almost anything that comes out of Phil's mouth at the table is calculated and part of his game. ANYTIME he observes an opponent playing anything other than straight forward poker or playing back at him he berates them. He's smart.

re: Poker After Dark: Hellmuth And for being the greatest ever Hellmuth is terrible at cash games. Which is why everyone wants to play with him! Yes he's good at NL holdem tournaments, but to consider yourself the best I think you need to be able to adapt your game so you can win in any variation of the games you play.

If you could seperate the brain from the boy Im sure you could learn a lot. Just from hearing him talk about his strategy and concepts you know there is a lot of knowledge in that cranium. But as an old teacher of mine said. God balances everything out. His immature behaviour makes him so unappealing Im just indifferent to him.

10 mil tourneys + 15 mil in endorsements - 5 mil in cash = $20 million Seriously it's one thing to see him play bad, but listen to his reasoning, it's literally level 1 thinking. "he put [x] dollars on THAT???" |

I hate watching anything that Phil is on. I admit he is a great tournament player. However he bratty behaviour drives me nuts. It is as if when he bets people should just hand the chips over because he is Phil Helmuth. My favorite to ever watch was in a tournament of champions. It ended up heads-up between Phil and Annie Duke. She owned him from the time they started heads-up and he just kept going on and on about how he was the best and there was no way she could win. Annie won and then they showed Phil pacing and cursing for about 15 minutes.
