Playing HORSE

Just finished my second HORSE tourney and am finding out that I like this stuff. It's fun to go from Hold Em to Omaha etc. Nice change of pace. Need to work on a few things but am excited about the variations within the game. Seems like most poker advice that I've read about in here on Hold Em tourney's applies to HORSE as well. Any other suggestions that might only work for this...besides making sure of the game you're playing before betting on

I love playing horse for the variation in games keep me on my toes.
I still need to play more stud games,but i love the holdem and omaha.

A big key to playing horse...especially if you end up deep in a MTT, is that RAZZ is the game that makes major swings in chip stacks. You must learn how to play Razz really well. Take a look at last years WSOP 50K Horse and you'll see that Razz KILLED Kenny Tran...an absolutely awesome poker player, but overplayed Razz hands at the final table and lost an awesome chance at winning the thing.

Actually HORSE tournies are usually decided by how well you play the games with the big blind. The stud games have a low ante & bring in, so you're never really forced to play. However, a big blind can be a relatively large portion of your stack, and it almost forces you to play with a wider range of hands than you normally would.

And get better at the non split pot games, since those are the most volatile ones. Stud 8 & LO8 can be more forgiving since its often a split. Plus Razz & Stud Hi skills translate well to stud 8.

horse really works all of your poker skills, makes you realize you can't limp nearly as often hoping to catch a flop, especially since your only getting "flops" 20% of the time.

You really have to be paying attention to the other players' cards on the stud games so you can remember if they are bluffing, and even more importantly so you can know how many of your suit have been folded, or are you on an open-straight draw and all but one of your cards are gone?

Sure their are big swings, and ya the blinds are going to be playing more, but that's where its time to step up your game, read their cards and choose the time to represent yours

My advice is to get good at Razz and Stud8. They're the biggest and most leaks I see in people's* HORSE games.

(* People != me. I leak at LHE, because I'm special like that)
