Mind you, I never watch TV or listen to the radio, and the only time I read the paper is during lunch at work. I still have faint hopes of getting out to see some of the displays for this convention. |

This might be news that a pro is going against a super bot publicly, but we've been playing against them for years already. Wake up and smell the coffee. But not to worry, just read a few more books on how to overcome bots, negative variance, fish schooling, and long term outcomes based on a theory, and you'll keep making your millions on cash tables online.

I doubt that Phil Laak is representative of a great limit player. Ali is much better (plays 1k/2k if memory serves). Shoudl've pitted Jen Harman against the cpu, since right now, Ali is even with Polairs, while Laak is getting utterly destroyed.
Plus, this is HU only (wich makes the decision tree much simpler), I doubt that a computer could take on many limit greats at once. At least not right now with the hardware and probably software limitations. On a another note, checkers has been beaten by Chinook, a computer using brute-force to calculate every outcome of every move. The proof has been made that you cannot beat it at the game. Wonder if we'll ever get there for much more compelx games (Go, Chess) and games that involve luck (Poker). |
