Phil "Back The Truck Up" Gordon Omg...for anyone who watched this week's episode of Poker After Dark, was this not by far the funniest episode/prop bet you've ever seen? So Phil Gordon tells Howard Lederer that he saw his mom at the casino last night. Howard Lederer doesn't believe him so he decided to bet. After about a full show of talking about the proposition bet, they finally decide to bet a grand each. As they do, Phil Gordon gets up, walks around and then comes back to the table and says "guys, back the truck up on this bet", which brought Robbin Williams into the bet for another grand. Finally, they call up his mom and she indeed wasn't at the casino, as Howard said. Phil Gordon can't believe him and is 100% sure he's being played right now. I just got done watching it 10 minutes ago and I'm still laughing at the entire thing.

I remember a story of Titanic Thompson one of the greatest con men. He hired a farmer with a truckload of watermelon to drive buy the pub where he and his friends would be. He had the farmer count the watermelon and told him to drive by a certain time and act like they never met. So when the farmer drove by the bar. Thompson looks out and says hey look at that load of Watermelon. Do you think you could guess how many are in there. He makes a large bet and guesses how many melons there are in the truck and takes all the cash. Could you imagine if Howard set Phil up and his mom was in on it. This was a great scene. It would be one of the all time cons.

The face Phil Gordon had...the rest of the show was beyond priceless. He was sure Howard and his mom set him up but he couldn't prove it. Then, Robbin Williams just kept goin on about how he wasn't going to put a nickel into that bet until that Phil Gordon said the "Back up the truck on this bet boys"...too funny. Ali was smart. He was like...too good to be true haha. Classic Episode, will never forget it.

When he felted with AA all in first hand at the heads up championship (last year), to Gavin Smith who called with 10 6 and caught a str8, he lost it for the first time ever on TV, almost. Watching him trying to keep from smashing a wall was the funniest thing... because he always tries so hard to look cool and composed... Look forward to catching the episode on reruns.. |

re: Phil "Back The Truck Up" Gordon poker BTW he was playing last nite at Stars, a number of pros were all playing stud hi lo. At Phil's table (20-40) the talk was all about the incident above, he is still shaken about it, and this will be an ongoing story I think.. I almost joined the table for the experience of playing with him, but 20-40 a bit steep for me, to say the least. Almost...

This PAD series that was on (analyst's week) was a re-run but interestingly, I remember that soonafter the show aired the first time around, Gordon was still talking about it on his weekly podcast, saying something to the extent of 'if anyone knows anything about this situation, contact me.' But I agree how the prop bet unfolded was fun to watch. Incidentally, iMaGiN., I think you meant Robert Williamson and not Robbin Williams?
