| PETER EASTGATE QUITS POKER AND GUS HANSEN TAKES A BREAK AND SKIPS THE WSOP MAIN EVENT peter eastgate stated that he never intnded to have a long poker career as a pro poker player,he jus wanted to be financially stable to decide what it is he wants to do with his life . MY QUESTIONS ARE- 1 do u think he had what it take to have a long poker lifespan and be a winning player ?2 would u quit if u won the main event or would u invest wisely to have another form of income and still remain a pro ? 3 gus hansen has went broke so many times is it possible that its happen again and he cant mortgage his house anymore ??? what do u think |

| 1) Yes, I think Eastgate had what it takes to have a long poker career and be a winning player, because he played alot before he even won the Main Event. Then he followed it up a year later with a deep run finishing 78th. Only Dennis Phillips, Greg Raymer, and Dan Harrington have had similar type runs since the boom in '03. 2) I enjoy poker too much to quit. I'd invest wisely and use the interest generated to sustain a pro bankroll. 3) Gus will be fine. We know he's at least a huge tennis fan, perhaps he decided to be in South Africa for the World Cup. |

Please lets not forget Mike "TheMouth" Matusow has also had some very deep runs in the Main Event. I think he finished 9th in 2005, 54th in 2008, 87th in 2004. All these since the 2003 poker boom. He also finished 6th in 2001. |

| Smart IMO. It'd be a soul destroying career if it's not something you love. Wicked Chops were saying it makes him about the second player ever to achieve some kind of profile and then quit the game while they're still ahead (Paul Phillips being the other). |

| Good for him,,,doesn't mean he won't play anymore, and make money doing it. Its just not gonna be his main resource of income. He has lots of money and theres lots of ways to double it up, rather than trying to double it up on a pair of pocket aces ! |

| people don't understand how frustrating it is to play tournaments for 2 years and only have one cash that exceeds $5 million. it must have really taken a toll on peter mentally jk. good for him that he's going to do what makes him happy. it seems obvious but many people don't |

| I saw Gus in Bobby's Room July 3 (2 days prior to the ME), granted he was just chilling out, but I doubt he's broke. Also Day 1D of the ME is today, so he probably is playing today. And if I won ME, half of the net will be invested, a retirement plan and some property in more than one location. Then I'll pay off whatever debt I have, then set about half of what's left over for poker. Then the rest will just be for living. |

| If I were Eastgate, I would continue to play the big live events as long as PokerStars is backing him. No need to stop if they are paying you to play. However, if his contract with Stars is up, then he should probably pack it in for a while and stop sustaining the type of losses shown in the chart above. |

| Really? I don't know how anyone could quit poker even Eastgate. Every time I win, It gives me a passionate feeling to be even better and make more money. It even makes me more persistent to someday achieve greatness and be a renown player. |

Plus he's a member of Team Full Tilt so there's pretty much zero chance he's paying the $10K entry out of his own pocket anyway. Actually, that's the most surprising thing to me: not that he can't be bothered playing a donkament that runs for weeks, but that Full Tilt are OK with one of their flagship players skipping the biggest televised event of the year. |

I don't believe his decision is anything about the losses shown there... he's stated that he no longer feels motivated to play high buyin poker & has chosen to move on. Sounds good.. wtg Peter imo. sidenote... losing $500k is babyfood for the guys playing highstakes cash game. |
