Pay Scale at Poker Stars.

I played in 5 MTT tonight at Stars. I cashed in all 5. Three of these were due to there new 20% pay schedule. This is not applied to all the tourneys yet, but is not a bad idea in my book. The problem is stretching the prize pool even thinner to cover the extra 5 to 7%. I was just wondering what everyone else thought of this. Granted if you're playing to win you would rather have less payed so you get more money, but isn't it nice to have the extra spots to fall back on? I'm not a big money player when it comes to on line play so for me this is the cat's ass. If I don't get really high up the ladder I still don't lose anything and actually make a little change. Also the higher the entry fee the more you make off of those fall back spots. At Stars tonight I was in a $5 tourney with I think 1500 ppl. Well I got 189th and got back $9.65
If this had been the regular pay scale I would not have cashed at all. You guys be the judge, which pay scale would you prefer?

I was thinking of posting this myself. It definatly makes cashing a lot easier, and doesn't seem to decreases the big pay outs too much... so I like it, i guess. Depending on the number of players the extra spots don't get much more then their buy in back, but it's a heck of a lot better then nothing.

I like it too. Of course you might get more entries now since better pay scale (probally why they did it lol)

a few weeks ago Dave said he was going to make a change of venue and was going in a tourney at pokerstars, so i went to the tourney to see how he was doing and while there i checked out the 20% payout struture and i gotta say i like it. I havent played in any of them yet, but the one dave tried was a $3.30 buyin i think, and it paid quite a few places. Think im goint to wait till after new year and try a few of them myself.

Yea I played one of these last week. Its great because you can play good solid poker and get to the money at least. Its still a VERY top heavy structure though. Went out on the bubble, when I decided to slow play a set against one of the tourneys chip leaders. Let him hit a gutshot for free.....

Just thought I'd throw this out there for whoever wants it. The biggest tourney on Stars at this point in time is the $3.30 tourney around 7 EST. This one has been getting 1700 to 2200 every day. If there are over 2000 then it pays 450 spots. Play good poker and 60 to 70% of the field will be gone by the first break.

I've been meaning to register an account with Stars. This is yet another good reason.

I have mixed feelings about percentages of paid spots in tourneys, but always appreciate a heightened opportunity to cash.

Well,

I guess I will have to cast the decenting vote here.

I think 10% pay is more than adequate.

Especially in big fields 10% doesn't leave much for the lower end of the field. But, getting in the money is usually an ego boost if you have been hit a rought spot.

I am that way now. Sometimes getting lucky if I go out in the top 30% of the field. Actually more than just sometimes.

Just the same I think lower than 10% payout is bad as well.

10% just seems like the right number to me.
