Party Poker STTs

I'm beginning to find SNGs at Party Poker more difficult to win... Especially at the $6 buy-ins. I'm getting called by so many bad hands. I just seem to find more bad beats there than others. Althought I blame it mostly on their blind structure, they start out too high, imo.

I like Ultimatebet but party poker always has a SNG going. Infact you gotta be quick or you may miss your seat. At Ultimatebet they dont seem as popular and you have to wait a while before a game starts.

My SNG Strategy is simple. Patience. Dont get involved in many pots unless you have a monster. But at the same time I think I'm not aggresive enough.

I looked myself up on a site that provides players stats. My wins were at 37% a few weeks ago, now at 34%

Quote:
Games played 161
Wins 55 (34.16%)
Losses 106 (65.84%)
Average Buy-In $13.16
Players with better winning percentage 471760
Players with worse winning percentage 765218
$109 Table: 1 wins / 2 losses / 33.33% wins
$55 Table: 1 wins / 1 losses / 50% wins
$33 Table: 3 wins / 4 losses / 42.86% wins
$22 Table: 11 wins / 6 losses / 64.71% wins
$11 Table: 17 wins / 40 losses / 29.82% wins
$6 Table: 22 wins / 53 losses / 29.33% wins

PPParty Poker is probably the best known online poker room. Use the Party Poker bonus code CC500 for a 100% upto $500 deposit bonus.

UltimateBetUltimateBet are one of the older rooms on the internet with a great range of games to play and a 111% bonus using the bonus code CARDSCHAT.

My question to you is, What do you consider monster hands?
If you can, could you post a hand history or two to analyze

I noticed you've had success at the $22 tables (and, overall, everything above $11) on Party, which is the buy-in I play at Party and am relatively successful as well. Maybe you should play here exclusively and quit playing at the $6? I know that you want other players to be bad, but at the $6 level they're so bad and wild that it can throw you off. The play at the $22 is bad enough as it is (it really is surprisingly bad).

Here's why I like $22 tables better. I know your stats calculate a "win" as anything in the top 3, but 1st place finishes are the ultimate thing you're looking for to really lift your bankroll since the SnGs are top-heavy (that is, 1st gets an entire half of the winnings). At $6 SnGs, you almost require tons of luck to get 1st place because there are so many overly aggressive donkey maniacs. If there are 6 clueless maniacs in a game, no matter how bad, one or two of them are almost certain to be lucky enough to accumulate huge chip stacks that can be hard to overcome when and if you reach the top 3. At $22, although the play is fairly bad, there are much fewer maniacs accumulating gargantuan stacks, which means that there's a higher likelihood that you can get 1st place based mostly on your skill.

I think a reasonably skilled player will almost always get 1st place a higher % of the time at the $22 tables than at the $6, on Party Poker at least.

i've been digging through my hand histories because there's alot of eh, history there. Lot of stories to tell. Such as everyone limps in and I'm on the button. I have AK so I move all in (not the best move I know) guy to my right (he's not in a blind position) decides to call me with this K6 offsuit and hits a six on the flop and I get no Ace. I could have pocket jacks or queens and go all in and someone decides to call with Ax... AK i can see but ace 8 and stuff sucks.

Don`t. That`s asking for trouble. In that situation, raise 5 to 10 BBs (depending on the situation) to see if you can get rid of the limpers. Then, if you don`t take the pot there and you don`t pair on the flop, you can still get away from it.

If after having some success at higher buy-ins why do you still play the lower games?

You must have realised people tend to call with anything there? as well as chase their hands to the river?

Patience is the word stay tight let the fish knock each other out and then begin playing tight proper poker.

Dont go all-in unless you are sure you have the pot won and pick on the short stacks whilst avoiding too much play with the big stack.

Of course its never that simple but these rules are what my basic sng platform is and it works more times than not.

Oh yes dont limp unless 1, Your trapping 2, you've hurt your leg

Enjoy and Peace

I lost a $50 free bankroll playing the $6 sngs at party. I initially doubled it up to $100, then went downhill all the way.Im a tight-agressive player till the last 4-5 players, then I extend my range of hands to play, but these guys at party poker will call with anything, and dont respect 5xBB Pf raises or reraises or anything like that. Guess every site has a level where the donks cant afford to play, but the good poker players can, and do.
My main site to play at is victorchandler.com, if I want to muck about for 30 minutes(thats how long the average game lasts) I'll play any sng up to $2 buy-in(they have 10 cent sngs, which can last 10 hands, or 200 hands!). If I want a more serious game, knowing it will last at least an hour, I'll go to $3/$5 buy-in. find the level you can afford, and learn the play at that level, thats my advice.

Scrap the win%. Pointless.

30% with all 3rds is losing money
30% with all 2nds is still losing money
30% split evenly between 1/2/3 is still losing money

Like I said. It's a pointless stat.

Look at your ROI%

When this is positive, then look at your hourly rate.

I've been playing the SNG's on PokerStars and I've found the same experience there. On the 45 person ones, the play is just the worst. I've had people call off their entire stacks on gutshots, go all in preflop with King 3 offsuit, all kinds of idiocy. What makes them frustrating is you end up against people with huge stacks that simply will never fold. It's more like bingo than poker.

The biggest reason I lose is neare the end of the game when people start going all in and people will call with Ax. They practically keep doubling each other up. The chips move around the table between everyone while I'm left out.

I play the bubble aggresively. It almost worked this time. I was all-in all-in everytime I felt it was a good spot (not my usual style) and with the blinds at 400 I was recovering well, and finally made it back up to chip leader. I get pocket aces and someone calls with pocket 10s and catches a 10 on the river. Not that he made a loose call

I think I'm going to quit.

Marklar, could you tell me what the name of this site is that you looked yourself up on for your STT stats on Party Poker? I've been looking for something just like this.

Actually, this could be really interesting to see (or at least take a look at).

Can either of you PM the name of the site to me?

This is quite common in STTs. Often they end this way, if the last 3-4 players have fairly equal stacks and the blinds have risen pretty high.

Try not to see it as a problem. It`s part of the attraction of STTs. You have to be able to switch gears and adapt your play as the number of players reduces and the blinds rise. It`s possibly more interesting and, some would say, more skillful than a ring game, where the pace remains the same for as long as you care to play.

The final all-in war is less common at sites where the blind structure is more relaxed - Ultimate, for example. Try playing there, you might find the play more to you taste.
