Opinions on MTT's

In your opinion, can a person manage a bankroll and show a consistent profit on MTT? I enjoy MTT's and have my biggest payoffs from them however I cannot strictly play these and sustain a bankroll. I find myself going to SnG's and cash tables. How about you?

I think it depends.

What is your min/max/average buy-in as compared to your bankroll?

It can be done, however it is much more varience related than in cash,or even STT's I would say. Just purely down to the mass of people you have to knock out or should I say outlast. I generally play cash games now and throw in a few STTs and MTTs now and again to keep me fresh and thinking straight lol.

Consistent profit? That's not MTTs (Depends what you mean by consistent though). You want to make it in them, you need to accept the fact that at some point you're the king of the hill and next your aces don't hold up in a few tournaments.

Good point - for MTT, you pretty much have to go in understanding that your success is measured not by the session or even the week, but by the combined results of a group of tournaments (over a long period of time).

There are certainly people who show a +ROI on a consistent basis playing MTTs, but that is generally measured over hundreds of tournaments.

I thought about this before also and wondered about my oprr(official poker rankings rank) since the track all angs and mtts, not cash games. for a full tracking meaning from the beggining of my poker online, i have won over 3k$ in prizes and profited over 800$ and during all of this i have contained a good br only to cash it out, not lose it, although i have lost br's before.

I think it would get to you mentally when you go for some time with no cashes. Its like being on a long losing streak playing cash games. Your mood is just different when you are losing.

If your bankroll is big enough and you're a good enough MTT player then they can certainly be profitable.

How profitable and how big a bankroll you need really come down to your stats though, and to some extent your playing style. If you're the kind of player that aims first and foremost to fall across the line and into the money, then you'll probably have lower variance than the kind of player than aims for first and only first.
