OMG..I Can't Believe I DID that

For the past few days I have been playing Omaha hi/lo
at Paradise. I bought a 40.00 buy in and took it up to
300 real quick. Tonight I had a fight with my ex husband.
And............I thought I would play to get my mind off of it.
Well as you may guess, I did terrible and lost it.
I knew it was a mistake to play.. I learned a lesson that is
for sure. Yikes still cant believe it.

Cardinal rule of poker (in my book at least): Never play when you are mad! (or distracted, not focused or uncomfortable for that matter)

Yeah...I've learned that lesson before too...Not at the cost of $300, but enough to hurt none the less.

Get a punching bag, don't play poker "trying to get your mind off of it." You need focus playing poker, which you will have little of if you just had a fight with someone.

Yes no time to play poker when upset with anything, but it's a lesson that you won't forget. I learned the hard way to.

I can't believe it!..Argueing and stess and pokerlosses?!..finally i can say i realise the connection..lol..2 or 3 times i have learned that lesson..DO NOT PLAY POKER IN THOSE CONDITIONS!

i read in one of phil gordon's books (it is probably elsewhere as well) to remember the rule of HALT - don't play poker when you are:

Hungry
Angry
Lonely
Tired

i guess its a good rule of thumb to stay away from the tables when you are feeling ANY strong emotion one way or another, or if some basic necessity needs to be met first.

Now thats a good rule. I cant even count the times that I've played when I was just starving, then once I get something to eat I notice an imediate improvement in my game. Also, I've played long into the night only to blow off all the money I won erlier.

i will do that all the time be home late at nigth and have nothing to do so i play poker and i have found that is the worst time to play... when you are bored and do it just because...i have learned now if im up late and have nothing to do i play freerolls or play tables to practice on my game. i have also set daily goals for myself and once i hit that i STOP playing.. although it is hard i know if i keep playing for too long i will just waste it away.
