NEWS: WSOP No Longer Accepting Online Satellite Registrations

Not a huge deal. I just think it's funny how paranoia spreads:

http://www.pokernews.com/news/2006/1...epted-wsop.htm

I'd take the $10K and enter a bunch of the smaller events. +EV?

Yeah, I'd much rather play 5 or 6 of the smaller WSOP events than the Main Event Donkey Farm Luck Box Open.

I realize everyone here is of amateur status, but this is great news. You want to win a satellite, go sit at a real table and do it. 8k people was getting out of hand. Every site was giving away these things like it was candy at Halloween.

Couldn't agree more with you here my man. Maybe we will get to see some real players get a chance to win the thing. At the very least people should have to go to a casino and win a live satellite instead of an online one.

I do agree with the fact that there were too many online qualifiers in the Main Event this year, but why get rid of them completly. Maybe they should limit the number of online entrants by only letting certain sites have a set number of seats available. This would accomodate everybody I think.

Keep in mind that, as I read it, this doesn't stop you from winning entry into the ME via online satellite. It only bars online entry into the satellite by a third for a person that won their entry. Simply put, once I win my seat in a satellite via PokerStars for 2007, PokerStars will not be able to register me in the ME. Instead, they would need to give me the money to register myself (which I could do online if I have the cash). So then the only real issue is how many people would get 10K from a pokersite and actually enter? Or how many would transfer it to someone else (possibly). Or just keep the cash and say screw it. But I have a feeling that there will be many that will still enter the ME if they are handed the money.

i think a lot of people would use the 10k to enter the main event. there would definitely be others who pocket it, or invest in another player too. . . i'm pretty sure i would use it to enter the main event.

I agree with JD - it`ll cut down the number of online players who appear in the ME, but it certainly won`t eliminate them.

Cashing out is the key...how are they going to give you the money?

Ok. Say you want to win that satellite online. You've got about 3 sites to do it at, then, for you to get your money you have to go through neteller or another source. I heard Firepay shutdown...and Neteller has yet to make a statement except to lower their withdrawal limit to 1c. I think it's safe to say they might not be accepting any payments or giving anyone in the U.S. their money in a few days, weeks, etc.

Not to mention the fact that millions of people might be cramming into those sites to try their shot to win a satellite. It might make you winning that satellite a longshot or maybe an opportunity for more satellites. Who knows.

Right now it's questionable what actions companies have yet to do. Stock holders and boards on companies such as Neteller, etc...might not want to lose anymore $ and ban the U.S. to try and save face in future weeks and give confidence back in their company. I believe this is what Party has already done and the rest will follow. It's rough losing millions of $ in hours and stockholders don't view being very large lawsuits that could shut them down as a nice idea when trying to make money, especially when the U.S. market is now basically dead weight as it is.

Well, first of all, I am from the US. Also, as I understand it, Neteller intends to continue doing business as usual (unless something has changed since Friday that I'm not aware of). So I could get the cash.

And there other possibilities for registration tied to a third party. For example...You could be given a voucher by the poker site that would have some reps onsite in Las Vegas for ME registration. You show up with your voucher and picture ID to prove it is you and they assist you with ME registration and pay the fee. This isn't the logistical nightmare some will make it out to be. The exposure for the sites is too great to stop them from something this simple. Another option would be very similar for online registration. All it would require is a LiveMeeting or something similar with a poker site rep to assist with online registration and make the payment for you. The WSOP simply says they can't register you online. Nothing says they can't pay for you, though.

Cozy up to ChuckTs and use his home address for a check.

But seriously, if not for the satellites I would have a rat's ass chance in hell to getting to the WSOP moneywise.

Correct. I wouldn't count on it in the near future though. Just a heads up. Everything JUST happened, I wouldn't count on anything right now...the smoke has yet to settle.

No offense, but these are ideas have yet to be put in place. Sure there's all sorts of possibilities, but are you going to steak your WSOP entry on something that isn't and might not ever be brought to the table?

lol

Anyway...my suggestion. So, you want to play at the ME? Go win the satellite at a Real table. If you're good or even lucky, and win that satellite, it'll give you at least some valued experience, and at least you know you'll Actually will be going to the ME instead of praying every night that JokerStars or others don't change their mind on a whim or when the legal papes come flying.

Who knows if my ideas will ever be put in place. I don't know that they will and you sure as heck don't know they (or some variant) won't.

Like you said, everything just happened and the smoke still has to settle. But if I was a betting man (LOL, ironic statement), I'd bet that ALL of the major sites (that do NOT ban US players) that give away and/or promise seats will find a way to either get you the cash or pay for your entry. I'll take that option long before I agree with you that they are going to bail on everyone. The exposure they get for getting the players in far out weighs ANY logistical issues with getting them in. And the negative press they'd get for screwing the winners far out weighs the reaons for wanting to screw them over.

As for actually playing a live satellite, that is possible for some. In case you handn't noticed, there are some people that post here that can't make a trip to/from Las Vegas just to start throwing $1000 per satellite to try and win a seat. It isn't in their bankrolls and there is nothing wrong with winning online.

For those who haven't heard, Neteller HAS made a statement:

http://www.professional-poker.com/ne...-us-market.htm

"We are completely committed to the U.S." - Neteller

Can't get any clearer or more positive than that. As I said to start this thread: "Not a huge deal."

my bad. maybe you're clear to go for that satellite until the 270 day period is up and Neteller makes their next potential statement, which would be after the 2007 WSOP if my thinking is correct. That's not to say Neteller won't decided to change their mind before the years up anyway.

It's also perfectly reasonable to believe that NeTeller will not change their mind or reissue any different statements at any point since they are 1) not a US based company, 2) not affected by a 270 day compliance window like US financial institutions, 3) are still allowed to received funds from US banking institutions because they are not (in and of themselves) a gambling site and because you can use NeTeller to do business with places other than internet gambling.

So as long as it is still legal for US citizens to send money to a foreign online banking site (e.g. NeTeller), which it still is for now, then NeTeller can continue on doing business as usual without impact to US players.

With the recent neteller news, it looks like that real table is your only option...unless of course you're afraid of the Reeeaaaal Taable! Hell, I know I am! It's all perrtied up with felt and junk. Too deceiving...

Not just yet. All they did was issue a statement that they would be re-reviewing the legislation and would comply. Those are fairly broad statements based on possible interpretations of their words. Basically what they've said is really wishy washy. I won't make any decisions until I actually see them say they are in fact banning US from their service.
