| New Poker Term I'd like to coin You've heard of "donkaments" and "shoveaments"... well, how about "doncomments". That would be comments the donkey makes after a donk play. I have never heard this term before, but if someone else has used it before, I say "Great idea, sir!". | I'm having trouble figuring out which one is the donk. Smitty obviously is trying to steal the blinds with his raise. GN is trying to put a statement that he has a hand and isn't going away - but only has A4s. I can see putting the raise in with only 2 players in the pot...A4s is not bad if you hit the flush or draw. But the flop only yields a pair of 4s for Gn. But Smitty checks - if he is planning to continue a bluff, don't check...unless you are planning a check-raise. He doesn't...he checks. GN thinks maybe his 4s are good and bets and Smitty calls. Bad move...this says you missed the flop, but are drawing. If he had pushed here with a check-raise, he might have won the pot. Then the 3 comes and Smitty bets. If I'm GN, I'm thinking he either A) caught a pair of 3s B) completed a set of 3s C) has a pckt med pair. But GN calls still HOPING his 4s are good...but again, just calls so he can't be that confident. Then a 9 comes out and another bet/call. At this point GN is jut HOPING...but I would have probably thrown them away on the turn. IMO, both of the players played it like a donk hand. In a live game, maybe you can interpret the flop check as a missed flop, then a bet w/ the 3 as he caught a pair of 3s. But so many people slow play online...that a flop check with a bet after a blank doesn't always put me into thinking they hit the turn card. So many times I'll see two donks go at it. One pushes all in preflop with like A6o and he gets a caller by KQo. They both tell each other they are donks. I had a hand where 2 people went all in before me, I call, and one more after me. I had KK, 2 ppl had AJ, and one had J 10. The AJ I can understand - little looser than me...I'll raise w/ AJ, but not all-in preflop. But ok...coin flip. But the J 10 put all his chips in...Flop comes AKx - I get my set of Ks. Turn and river give Q 10. 3 split the pot w/ a str8 and I lose all my chips. I had best hand going in - and I'm the only one that gets nothing. The guy w/ J 10 called me a donk a few hands later and I just had to laugh. I ended up getting my money back from him when he pushed all-in with 66 when I had AA. |
