| new poker room identity As much as I hate to do this, I may have to/want to, start all over with a fresh online identity. I don't want to have to do this, but for unities sake it might be a better time to do it than say if I was a very well established online poker playing entity. I have argued against doing this in the past, so if it happens, I will probably be my worst critic. There are ethical concerns involved. But it may have to be. That said, what steps can you suggest to totally purge any existing online identity from all poker rooms in particular, but maybe more generally the world wide web. A fresh email of course, and maybe even a cheap new enet board. What else? |

| Uhh, if I understand what you want just ask PokerStars if you can close your old account and make a new or one or just change your name on. |

| What happened to cause you to "start over" as it were.. Identity theft ???? Start with a new computer ....each computer has a mac address that is unique then tell your ISP you need a new ip address thats a good start... PS..... get a MAC |

| Most sites have something along the lines of a 'One Player, One Player name policy'. I don't want to be breaking rules at all, but a stretch of the definitions may be necessary. Plus it would give me an opportunity to standardize a personality across all the sites I visit. This actually should be considered a plus. The above mentioned MAC address resides in the Ethernet chip, thus the probability of a new cheap Ethernet (enet) board. I am not sure it can even happen. All sites are requiring physical mailing addresses these days, and that is a dead giveaway, I can't be selling my house to do this. |

| re: new poker room identity Well, not to discourage you, but I actually tried very hard at one point a couple of years ago to wipe out my Internet identity and start fresh. I went through a LOT of trouble, and it didn't work. You always seem to leave cyber tracks, no matter how hard you try to cover them. Good luck though - and if this works out let me know how you did it. I'd really like to know where I went wrong. |

| I don't see why it would be so difficult to change an online identity. The only thing you cannot change is your real name since you will want to be able to cash out. That's unless you legally change your name, of course. Here is how it might work:
Am I missing something here? Please let me know if this works for you. I am curious myself. |

| Well, it depends on whether or not he wants to wipe out only his poker identity or his entire Internet identity. Full tilt allows more than one player per address, and I believe most other poker rooms do as well, but I know that at Full Tilt the players must have separate banking identities or e-passporte accounts - so if that's how he loads and withdrawls he could have some problems there. The biggest issue with wiping out an Internet identity is web archives. Even if you change your username on every single MB you post on, a google search of your old screen name will lead someone to the new username, mostly because of other poster quoting you. But I doubt dj would need to go that far - unless he too has a crazy ex-husband stalking message board posts looking for evidence of unfaithfullness *rolls eyes* |

And the IP address is dynamic anyway. And they cannot use subnets or else they would end up with one customer per ISP. I think that would limit their customer base somewhat. |

| re: new poker room identity Before I ever deposited any money I made an attempt to unify all my poker names. I forgot which of the big 2 wouldn't allow me to change names. Hell that was last year when at one point I had probably 15 different sites loaded, so it was likely several who nixed that idea for me. The 'have to' part would be for convenience only. Nothing bad has happened. The 'want to' part is for the unification across multiple sites. 10 years ago, it wouldn't have been hard at all. I was still a PC whiz then, and the notion of the anonymous entity was not frowned on much then. The recently developed frown has turned into a scowl, with fangs. What this does sort of tie in with are some ethical issues recently discussed, and some of the seemingly draconian identity hoops many have described during a site withdrawal. Remember that in America, for the most part, your SS# is also your taxpayer ID#. Since my game has gotten to the point where the reality of the possibility that the next jump in it will put me into the realm of profit, I figured now is the time to test the possibilities of these changes. The ethical issues, for familiarities sake, can be addressed by asking; If AG has a 2nd online entity ID as a player marked as a donk, and all of a sudden improves as that donk, is it right? Should tar and feathers figure into the remedy? Last edited by dj11 : 7th December 2007 at 5:00 PM. Reason: punkitation |
