New Movie, "Deal" Has anyone seen it?

It pokerstars Burt Reynolds and some kid with a boring face. He's neither pretty nor tough and I can't for the life of me remember his name, even though I just watched the trailer.

Aside from Jennifer Tilly being made out to be intimidating(she doesn't even scare me and I'm on the bottom rung of the ladder here), the cast includes Shannon Elizabeth being a non-poker-playing-hooker? I have to presume that the pros shown in the trailer are playing themselves. That's all I get from the trailer.

So then I read the "reviews" but they were all from people who I guess got paid to be in the movie. I'm less than impressed by that.

I want to know what real players, online, live, both; have to say about the movie.

At first I was all super-excited because I saw "Best Poker Movie Since Rounders", and now I'm scared of it being craptastic. I guess I should have noticed that the guy who said that was Joseph Hachem and in the movie. But I didn't, so now I'm feeling manipulated and I haven't even seen the movie.

Can I get a yay or nay?

Haven't seen Deal but speaking of poker movies I caught "Lucky You" on cable last week. What a steaming pile of dog crap!!!! I wouldn't recommend you watch it even if it was the cure for cancer.

I can't entirely agree that it's time to stop making poker movies. Time to stop making bad ones? Sure. Arguably it's time to stop making bad movies all together. The problem is, I don't think anyone actually wakes up one morning and says to themselves "Self. I think it's time I write a horrible movie script. Maybe a sucktacular director will jump on board. I could get rich!"

I would like to know why there hasn't been a shockingly great documentary or bio-film. Come on, 'March Of The Penguins' made penguins fascinating. Waddling, arctic, birds, who pretty much hunt and look like they're dressed for a snazzy shindig; were suddenly cool. So cool they spawned 'Happy Feet'.(I admit to loving 'Happy Feet'. There's just something about cute animated baby animals that brings out my girlness. Maybe it's oh I don't know, my lack of a y chromosome)

Back to the point. Why don't they just grab a charismatic pro and follow him or her around for a few months? Pay them enough and they'll do it!!! The thing about documentaries is that after awhile the person being followed around gets really used to the cameras and film makers. Then they could have them honestly analyze their frame of mind during certain situations at and away from the table.

P.S. I wanna see 'The Jennifer Harman Story' starring someone unlikely such as Charlize Theron or Dakota Fanning. I dunno why. I just wanna see it.

Trailer:YouTube - Deal Trailer 1

It looks like an ok movie and Shanon Elizabeth is a hottie who actually knows how to play poker. I'll probably risk the buy-in to go see it.

Sorry odinscott. Forgot to run a search. It's such a bummer. I wanted it to be good. No great. I mean "Best Poker Movie Since Rounders"! It just sounds so good.

Too good to be true Now I'm bummed.

I'm not a guy, nor lez so I don't know how important it is that I checked another site(imdb) and she doesn't get naked. Won't say who I want to see naked, but he's not Shannon. I imagine guys would want to see her get naked.

I guess the trailer has me fooled somewhat too because it looks like an ok movie. It doesn't have blockbuster written all over it, but I figure I'll still go see it.

@ N.D. - Guys will want to see ANY girl naked.

Shannon Elizabeth

she may not be fantastic... but she is definately not a non-poker playing hooker...

and yes, preview makes the movie look terrible.

I thought the film was ok but just a little cheesy. Not worth paying to see.

the dude is Brett Harrison from REAPER

The movie is cliched to the hilt, not one I would recommend, next to lucky you it blows and next to rounders, lucky you blew so go figure.

It's really beyond me how they can pump out all these bad poker films loaded with big named pros, but it never seems to occur to them to hire one as an advisor.

That said, there is a ray of hope on the horizon. Nicolas Cage is producing and starring in a movie based on the life of Amarillo Slim Preston. It's an adaptation of Slims auto-biography Amarillo Slim in a World Full of Fat People: The Memoirs of the Greatest Gambler Who Ever Lived

That one sounds good. Plus it will probably not be a low budget movie (not that deal is, but opposed to say the Scotty movie

That sounds like it will be a good movie. Amarillo Slim was quite the character so it will be interesting how Cage portrays Slim.

I'm still going to take the hit and go see Deal though.

I was talking about the trailer. When I said "being" I meant in the movie. As in, she's being the character in the movie. That's because I expect for actors and actresses to be their characters while on screen. The guy young guy looks like he caught her with a type-cast version of a businessman on vacation or at a convention. Then he wigs out and starts yelling/asking the old dude(Burt Reynolds but it looks like he's just "Old Dude" in the movie), if he paid her.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought women who got paid to pretend like they're into a guy and have sex with him were either hookers or porn stars. Since I didn't see a mock-movie set in the trailer, I figured the character was the former.

Shannon Elizabeth the person seems like a sweet kind of girl-next-door type. I get why guys would crush on her. Not hating on her. She seems sweet, is pretty, and plays poker. I would hurry to check the pulse of a guy who didn't have a crush on her. That or I'd remind him to check his eyeliner.

I think that's the movie I'm dying to see!

Still wanna see Dakota Fanning as Jennifer Harman. I don't know why. I just wanna see it.

"The Deal" SUCKED ass. I watched the movie just now and thought I'd make a post about how terrible this movie is. I want to give away the ending so bad because then you people wouldn't waste your time on this suck ass movie.

I know what they are doing. Let's make a movie about poker because we know a lot of poeple will go and watch. Who cares how good it really is. They know they'll make money off of this shitty movie.

Why not give us something good. Something as good as rounders was. Never again will there be another rounders. That was the best poker movie of all time!

I am alright with Shannon Elizabeth, she holds her own (with Jennifer Tilly lol) on the poker table. The Grand looks decent, I am going to see if I can find it now.

The Grand looks more funny than real poker. This is probably a good idea. Movies that try and be real poker usually fail badly. The Grand looks fun. "

"The Deal" is truely a bad movie. The poker isn't any good, the movie isn't any good, the acting isn't any good, and oh ya the movie sucks ass.

Not sure why a site like that wouldnt work with Opera, considering that I use FireFox plugins for streaming downloads, etc.
