I started playing poker a little over a year ago and about 6 months ago I watched the movie Rounders for the first time. After watching the movie for about the 5th time this weekend I decided that there should be a new poker movie. I heard there is supposed to be a movie about Hellmuth called The Poker Brat but it may just be a rumor.
Is it just me or is it time for a new great poker movie? Also, are there any other poker movies that you would like to recommend? ![]() |

. Wow you guys are classy to say the least and that would be the least I could say about your whole post. Until you post your picture up which has to be on GQ the way you talk I dont think you have room to criticize someone Else's appearance. |

New Movie?
I wouldn't mind seeing something similar to Doyle Brunson's story on film or Stu Ungar as well. It wouldn't be exactly Doyle Brunson for example - don't have to worry about the casting part or being dead-on accurate from a historical perspective. Would be nice though if it was loosely-based on him and the struggles early on and then making it in the end by winning the big tournament...twice....consecutively.
I just think it would be easier to have some fictional character so that you can play around with it and have more artistic license in order to make it more of a movie with the drama and stuff as opposed to a documentary.... But seriously...a movie about Phil Hellmuth?? I respect the brat - 11 bracelets does mean something - but it's just so......ugh.....does a movie studio really have to feed his ego all that much more? Hope they include his trashing of the race-car from this year's WSOP! ![]() |

Doyle's life needs no artistic license. He was one of the country's best basketball player in college (and was so good at track he dominated without seriously training), beated cancer miracoulously, had his wife beat cancer miraculously, was so down sometimes he had to borrow for the money to phone his wife from the casino, played in mob games with shotguns lying around, got mugged and robbed countless times and toured the country with Sailor and Slim (probably colluding along the way ala Rounders style) playing in high stakes game when no one was playing high stakes games except thugs. Ellix Powers (reportedly homeless) and Howard Lederer (gambled his pay everyday before becoming a winning player and then turning pro) would also make for good stories.
It would be like the LOTR movies, they would have to cut on scenes characters to make it fit. And there is already a movie about Stu Ungar. PS: For those who think that Hellmuth doesn't know how to play cash games, please to be looking on pokertube for hist first hand against Mattusow in HSP4. |

The film they did about Stu Unger wasn't that bad.
Stuey (2003) It's also known as "High Roller: The Stu Ungar Story." |
