New Congressional Support for Legalized Online Gambling

Momentum for regulated Internet gambling is continuing to gain speed as another three members of Congress joined Congressman Barney Frank in his efforts to pass the Internet Gaming Regulation and Enforcement Act. These well respected members include Robert E. Andrews (New Jersey), Adam Smith (Washington) and John B. Larson (Connecticut). This brings the total co-sponsors of the legislation to 44.

hmm, I probably trust pokerstars more than I trust the federal government. Just me, but I really don't mind the way it is, minus the laws against depositing directly via credit, but now with echecks I don't even care about that.

I hear what you are saying zac and agree at least somewhat..

however, one thing the US government has proved is that they simply aren't happy if there is something they can get their claws into that they don't already, or get them in deeper if they are in now..etc

poker is no different. I can't help but feel that if something like this doesn't pass the other extreme will eventually come to pass in the US. That is congress isn't regulating it, so they will either outlaw it or continue to make it more and more of a hassle till it is effectively outlawed.

wish it weren'' that way and i'd love to be proven wrong..

The government has it good now, they tax winnings, but they are taking a passive stance with regard to prosecution. They make things inconvenient but as of now they are not doing much. Hopefully this Barney Frank bill will make a point. Even if things stay as they are, enforcement is another issue.
Although, it does seem that the government has interpretted necessary and proper a little more elastically than our framers intended.

I'd rather play at Harrahs.com and Bellagio.com and other new US sites that will probably come from this than continue with unregulated offshore sites.

I think taxation is a better alternative to possibly acting outside the law and tied to sites that can do whatever they want without much recourse.
