I've ordered some new cards. Over the years the plastic cards have proved themselves to be worthwhile. Through experience, we've found some brands to be better than others:

1. KEMS - expensive. Good but slick texture and thin feel. Over-rated IMO.
2. COPAG - were my favorites. Start out good, but colors bleed. Company wouldn't replace bad set. Screw them.
3. Dal Negro - Pick up dirt easy. Little flecks.
4. Gemaco - Good but nothing special.
5. Modiano - these have been my favorite. Excellent quality. We've used ours so much the colors are starting to fade (after several years and much use).

I've ordered the following:
1. One two-deck set of Modiano Poker Index. These are jumbo index cards, which I think help with our long table, with an innovative small index in each corner so you can see your cards without revealing them to your neighbor.

2. One four-deck set of Modiano Cristallo Jumbo Index.

3. One two-deck set of Desjgn Wicked Combo. A new company getting good reviews. Backs come in a lot of cool colors. The arrangement of pics on the cards is non-traditional, so it may be confusing if your brain has memorized patterns. Don't know if we'll like this or not.

4. One two-deck set of Fournier jumbo index Arabesco design. These are Spanish cards and have some of the best reviews I've seen. Anxious to try them.

5. One two-deck set of Bicycly Prestige. This is Bicycle's entry into plastic cards and they've also gotten excellent reviews.

I ordered the first four from Caragails and the Bicycles from ace-king on eBay. I like Caragails. Freebies like cut cards and cases, free shipping (at least on this order. Don't know if there's a minimum).

I looked into the Stud Kings, e-mailed the company directly. I don't know if AG's review on another thread pertains to their old plastic card or to their upgraded DuraCard. Not as cheap as they used to be.

I like playing four-color deck online. We tried four-color COPAGs in our home game and they were not well liked.

This should be enough cards to last us the rest of our lives. It will be interesting to see what we like. We should retire the old Modianos. Maybe put them up as the bubble prize in an upcoming game.

Is anybody excited????? ?

You can find pictures at any vendor site such as caragails.com. There are some review threads here on CardsChat, and detailed reviews and pictures at
http://www.homepokertourney.com/cards_review.htm

The first time I saw KEM cards online, I thought people were crazy to be paying $15 or $20 for a set when I could get Bicycles at the drugstore for $2. But if you play much, you'll definitely find the plastics worthwhile. If you chose just one set, I'd say try Modianos.

I'd venture to say that over 90% of experienced players in this forum use plastic. Should do a poll.

I've ordered the following:
1. One two-deck set of Modiano Poker Index. My group did not like these cards. 6/9 confusion due to there being no indices on the cards.

2. One four-deck set of Modiano Cristallo Jumbo Index. These are 4-pip decks and if you're not careful this can also lead to confusion.

3. One two-deck set of Desjgn Wicked Combo. We haven't tried this particular design but some of the 1st plastic cards we used a few years ago were DesJgn (J Design) and they are pretty nice but don't always wear well.

4. One two-deck set of Fournier jumbo index Arabesco design. I really like these cards. Very nice look and feel.

5. One two-deck set of Bicycly Prestige. This is Bicycle's entry into plastic cards and they've also gotten excellent reviews. We haven't ried these.

Our last order was for 34 setups (68 decks) of the Modiano Elemnets when Trident was blowing them out at $3/deck. It's a shame they're not making them anymore because they are really nice and were available in a rainbow of colors.

Anyway I hope you enjoy your cards.

I did the same thing. These cards were a steal for their 2.50 closeout price.

Interesting theory. I realise that I don't qualify as "experienced", but I have played poker online and at my local casino. I do use plastic to pay when I go shopping at the supermarket, but I don't own any playing cards. I would be surprised if it's as high as 90%.

I'd venture that close to 90% who play in/host a semi-regular home game do use plastic cards. It ends up being much cheaper over the long run than replacing a $1 deck of paper cards every time you play.

Here's a link to a video review of Modiano, Copag and KEM dual index cards.

http://www.homepokertourney.com/reviews/cards-review-dual-index.htm

This reviewer rated the Modianos the best, one of the reasons because the six/nine confusion is diminished compared with the other two brands. The large indices in the margin have the suit under the number, making it easier to ascertain the difference between 6 and 9. The video shows that the Copags and KEMs are more confusing. In fact, the KEMS were the official 2007 World Series cards. They were yanked in part because of the 6/9 confusion. (There were also misspellings on the backs).

All of the cards have small corner indices, thus the term dual index (large in the margin, small in the corners). The Modianos and Copags are indexed in four corners, the KEMs in two.

I hope we like them, but maybe we'll get confused too. Thanks for the warning.

I've added a couple polls to see just which cards are favored.

Plastic, Plastic, Plastic!!!

You will never go back to paper after using good plastic cards. Personally I am a Copag man but I have used KEM others as well. I get all my poker stuff form www.bluffboutique.com They are the cheapest for Copag cards I have found on the net.

Paper cards are great for go fish and rummy!! One bent or split corner on paper cards and the deck is trash.

I got a few set's off e.bay of pokerstars cards. No idea what brand they are, but my card shuffler chews them up! lol.
Guess that'll teach me for being lazy and not shuffling myself.
Paper cards are terrible value though. After a night playing at my house we'll go through 2 decks easy, because the corners get bent and mangled and you end up knowing what everyone's holding!
Plastic please.

Dont ever use a cheap card shuffling machine. They dont shuffle properly and destroy your cards. Total junk

I wish there was somewhere I could buy decent cards here in Manila, can only get crappy paper cards or really floppy plastic cards and don't have a credit card so ordering online is a problem.... probably wouldn't even get the damn package anyway some customs bastard would probably swipe them.

I have Kem Arrow cards. Very impressed with them. They hold up well and supposedly unmarkable, unbendable and washable.

My Poker League uses Mordiano Index cards. They are good but it takes some time to adjust to their overall design.

You must have some super duper cards if they are unbendable. Are they made out of titanium??

No, they are flexible you you can't bend them if they bounce back to its original form.

Been a long time since I've been here, but I'll say the only Desjgn cards available from http://www.caragails.com are the bridge size. The first cards he produced were poker-sized and had an even more radical pip layout than the bridge-sized. They'll take a bit of getting used to.

The poker-sized Desjgns are available in six different back colors from http://www.playingcardsandmore.com . I've dealt extensively with both of these companies and have received nothing but great service.

Desjgns have bright white faces and black, rather than blue, ink on the court cards. Great contrast, no mistaking what they are. They're a bit slippery compared to the others, though.

The actual designer and owner of Desjgn is Jason Hawley, and he also is a good and fair person which with to deal.

Copag replacement cards are available only from the original suppliers, and only if that supplier has "Copag" in the website name. Otherwise you're probably out of luck.

I've shied away from Kems for a while - I've had trouble with splitting, even with the pre-USPC cards. The only Kems I have left now are unopened sets as collector's items.

Modianos (as well as Dal Negros) are stiff and a little harder to shuffle.

I have very little experience with the other brands of plastic cards, but the first reports of the Zero cards are good.

I've bought a set of two decks of KEM playing cards and I've used them many times and they are still in excellent condition and no marks or anything the texture the same as well very slick. I love kem playing cards and being able to bend them so that the 4 corners are touching each other. I think KEM playing cards are the best cards out there.

Wow, I never knew there was much beyond the $2 paper cards I've been buying for years. I play with a small group occasionally so I'm going to look into the world of plastic cards. Thanks for the info.
