New appreciation for bankroll management

I was practicing my PLO game yesterday when I had one of those moments when the light went on. You know one of those *zingers* when you finally 'get it.'

So here I am getting my derriere pushed around like a mop yesterday. Got drawn out so many times I lost count. Hand after hand after hand, the whole routine. Finally after playing about 800 hands and fairly upset the light bulb went on....

'Bankroll management did its job, you didn't go broke'

So instead of being frustrated, I started jumping up and down really excited because the safety features of BRM took care of yesterday's variance. I always knew that BRM would take care of variance on an intellectual level, however yesterday I fully absorbed and appreciated that aspect of BRM. Big difference between knowing something and internalizing something.

Ok I'm done ranting.

I too have a new appreciation for bankroll management. I recently took $180 to a $3/6 blind table at table with 3 players at fulltiltand it got ate up quick. I never really had a for sure winner.I got KJ and something like J 3 7 rainbow shows up on the flop. I go allin and other guy calls with QQ. Dumb move by me or just a setup by fulltilt or both. Either way I now have a new appreciation for managing my bankroll.

And unfortunately for most poker players it takes going broke once, twice or an infinite amount of times before they actually decide BRM is necessary....

I would say about 80% of online poker players understand the importance of bankroll management. But its the 0.8% who actually do it, day in day out - they are the ones that win long term.
