Negative Balance at Bodog

Can anyone confirm having experienced a threat from a poker site to send your "negative balance" to a third-party collection agency in the United States, and if so, what happened?

My story goes like this: I deposited $500 using a credit card (illegal on their end to begin with after July 2006 as I understand), made roughly 1200 in the course of the evening and then moved to withdraw. I was told that someone else had attempted to use my information and that the account was frozen. As part of the freezing, they refunded my initial deposit to the credit card for "security" purposes. They then declined to pay the $1200, stating i didn't actually deposit money, so i can't collect. Finally, they sent me an email a few weeks later informing me of my "negative balance" of $500, stemming from the refund (the $1200 has disappeared at this point) and threatening to refer the balance to third party poker collection agency.

Long-story short: what exactly can they do to me here in the States, specifically, to my credit?

I dunno if it matters if you live in US/canada... but I live in canada, and had a -$800 debt in paypal... they sent a few emails saying they would get debt collectors involved. But it never happened as I just ignored the emails and left it at -800.

I had a credit card, hell even my bank info was on this paypal.. they didnt do jack. Bodog is most likely just like them.

Now its like 2 years later no problems lol.

I had that happen with PayPal and they did contact the debt collector agency and sent me a letter, I paid them and never heard from it again. No interest or anything like that either. (I live in the USA)

Well, I did... they probably would not have been too persistant, but who knows im in canada maybe its different.

It wasn't PayPal sending the letter, it was a debt collectors agency. It wasn't my fault, someone sent me money on PayPal but their bank charged it back and it was like $50 and I didn't wanna pay because it isn't my fault but ya whatever.

In the OP's case, he's not going to have any problems with a collection agency even if one does get involved. He has credit card records showing his deposit and the REFUND (not a chargeback, but a credit issued by the pokersite). That alone is enough to clear him if they even bother trying to pursue it. But in this case, as the story is told, it isn't fraud and there should be nothing to worry about.
