Need help from someone who is good with math and knows poker/blackjack. A friend and I are arguing about what is more mathematically correct to play at a casino. Can someone who is good with math break it down for me. I know there are a lot of variables but I still think poker is the better game to play.

You can win more playing Poker because the house doesn't care how good you are (they won't kick you out) and you can outperform the fraction of a percent advantage you get in Blackjack. You can also lose at poker, but if you follow basic strategy and count cards you're going to win at blackjack (if optimal rules are offered). It all comes down to how good or bad the other poker players are compared to you. Last edited by D'wilius : 16th July 2008 at 6:34 PM.

re: Need help from someone who is good with math and knows poker/blackjack. If you assume an avg poker player and not counting cards you could also work it out for cost of entertainment. Hnds/hr*stakes*-0.5% for Blackjack and compare that to the rake you pay per hour, which depends on casino rules and how loose the play is.

If you win at poker at the casino and don't cheat or be overly obnoxious they won't throw you out. They make money on the rake. If you play blackjack and don't cheat and are really, really good at counting cards, they can throw you out. You would be taking their money and they have the right to get rid of players whose play gives them an advantage over the casino. Apparently you are allowed to play only if you lose.
