my worst bad beat - anyone know the odds ?
this is my worst bad beat - cant see i did anything wrong - ive checked the percentages but does anyone know the odds of them hitting both cards they needed ?
5+0.50 SnG full table tournie, I limp in to see the flop with Queen 10 flop comes down King Ace Jack (rainbow) making me a straight on the flop - I raise all-in (which is just over twice the size of the pot) I get called by one player who turns over 99 Figure Im sorted as he needs runner runner to make full house / 4 of a kind to beat my straight what does he get - Turn - King (2 pair Kings and 9's) - River - 9 (full house) Bad beat or what - anyone know the odds ???? scrawybob@4kingpoker.com |

Sorry to say Bob that this is just a regular occurance. I was playing in some SNGs on Pokerstars last night and I don't believe a single best pre-flop hand help up. I saw more runner-runner catches last night than I had seen in a long while. Not sure I'd have called the all-in with pocket 9s and that flop; however, it's better than being taken out by a 4-5 offsuit that catches...

As an "aside" All-in was a bit heavy. For "bombproof" hands like these (LOL), you've got to try and squeeze max out of opponents - an all-in would more likely than not just lead to fold which is a wasted opportunity. |

I don't know. I think sometimes it makes sense to lay the hammer down when you flop the straight w/ rainbow. On occasion you get the dope who calls (who in this case got lucky). What if that guy has K9 instead of 99, and you are slow playing. Maybe he calls a medium sized bet looking for the gutshot. Now the K hits on the turn. He's got trips plus the gutshot draw. He's not going anywhere, no matter what you bet.

bad beat - cheers guys
cheers guys
makes me feel a bit better - i almost felt worse that he had called me with 99 rather than junk because it seemed like a totally bone head call I tend to play alot harder - (it works for me most of the time as i can get the pots right up when I hit a hand without them thinking too hard - maybe it isnt the best plan but it really stirs them up and get them all tilting and loosened up) and also Id rather take a pot down for less than let them in - when I do get a hand they think Im still bullying and call with a hand like 99 - which i think is prob why I feel more cheesed off - he did what i wanted him to with the kind of hand i was big fav against - but yep your all right shit happens - thanks for the help guys scrawnybob |
