| My first Freeroll - Advice? Ok, so I qualified for a FT freeroll coming up this weekend. The first tournament I ever played in, I made it to the final table. I had absolutely no idea what I was doing ....... it was the first thing I did when I first signed up for FT. I just got lucky. Since then I have played almost exclusively ring games, and quite honestly losing consistently. But since it's free, no reason to not give it a shot. I know cash games and tourneys are very different, so, whats' your general advice on playing in a tournament? Paying attention here, I understand I should be ultra tight at the beginning, correct? General advice and guidlines will be greatly appreciated. |

| My advice is to not play tournaments. If you do play then wrap your mind around the fact that you have to get lucky to win. You need big hands at the same time as sombody elses big hands only slightly better a couple of times over AND they need to hold up or you wont get any money. So shove a lot preflop and pray it holds up. Dont even consider the tournament to have begun until you double up like 10 times or so. Until that point you just dont have the tools you need (chips) to go deep. So play cash games. |

| re: My first Freeroll - Advice? poker Lol, I'm thinking 2lillies is 1 lilies short of a bouquet. Controlled agression, along with observation, and some decent cards at a semi regular interval, and a healthy survival instinct may take you far. Since it's free, have fun. |

| I would suggest you only play freerolls for a while.; Stay out of cash or ring games. Get a book. First of like Phil Gordons green book or TJ Cloutiers tournament hold em book. Play micro levels if you want to bet. Read Card Player and Bluff Magazine articles as well as the Chat Forum. |

I read, I watch, I surf. I really try to soak up as much info as I can. I have spotted some simple weaknesses in my game and corrected them. I still lose. I don't know if I might be a permanent fish (someone who has the money to keep throwing at the game and is just not smart enough to have success ....... but keeps playing anyway). So many here seem to win consistently, and must be dying to pat me on the head and say there there little cowboy, just keep playing and you'll get better. Just sit at my table, ok? Not giving up yet. Shit, I've only been playing for 6 months anyway. |

Yes the first hour is brutal everyone (all donks) are pushing to quadruple up early so there is alot of all ins to resist. I say play tight first hour especially then they weed themselves out and game on. |
