Monster Obviously, AA and KK are monsters preflop and the money is going to go in the middle if two players have it in a hand. But what would you call a monster post-flop? We all know that any set preferably middle or top set are monsters, a disguised straight, maybe a top two pair, an over pair (depending on the texture of the flop/board I suppose) and a high flush draw w/ two overcards. But would you say a hand is a monster if you get no action? An example would be AAK on the flop while you hold AK or KK (Obviously it's a monster), but are you going to get paid off? Most likely not, unless he has AQ-AT and that's the only hand that will pay you off I believe. Another example would be the nut flush or even a made flush on the board (unless 4th of that suit hits on 4th or 5th), most of the time you won't get paid off unless the board is something like K-T-9 and someone has QJ and doesn't believe you, or a set. So what I'm asking is.. Do you call it a monster only if you get paid off? Or you do you call it a monster even if you get minimal value? Just a question, what do you think?

i think a monster is defined as a significantly strong hand, and it's dependent on which street u are at. preflop, QQ KK AA AKs are definitely considered monsters, on the flop/turn/river, definite hands are no longer included, 2pairs, set, straight, flushes can be considered monsters depending on the texture of the board. of course, fullhouses and above are usually monsters no matter what the flop, except if u hold a deuce on a 22AAK flop. so yeah it's all dependent, but my definition of a monster is not whether u get paid off or not, it's about having a massive, strong hand when the money goes in.

A monster on the flop is at least a set, a disguised set with a pocket pair is of course one of the best hands to extract maximum value with, it makes top pair look really safe, and even if your opponents are chasing draws there is always that 33 percent chance that the board will pair on the turn and river, so even if they get there you can get a full house and negate their flush/straight. imo its a monster no matter if you get paid off or not, if you flop a monster you flop a monster, no question about it. YouTube- Tony G - Royal Flush on the flop This is obviously a monster, even though he didnt get paid off as much as he would want.
