Monitors for multitabling!

Hi.

So what's the deal? 22"? 24"? How many tables (of, say, Stars) can fit easily? Widescreen or no?

Right now I'm looking at the two monitors in the VIP-shop (22" and 24") and am having some trouble deciding. Screenshots of how the setups look are welcome!

CANADIAN DREAM: Pics

24" samsung (not one in fpp store) on left, 32" acer on right.

I can basically fit 12 tables minimized on my monitor which is running at 1920x1200 resolution, but it's a little hard to see the stats etc. Four tables 'normal' size with tons of space in between. Definitely good enough though. Got it for $400 at futureshop.

Wish I could help with other monitor makes/models, but I have no experience with em.

Why do you play on the smaller monitor, though? And is 9 tables "easily" readable on the 24" screen? I'm considering getting a non-widescreen monitor since the tables are 4:3 anyway.

I'm guessing Chuck is using the smaller monitor because it has higher resolution than the acer. I'm planning on getting this monitor on Wednesday.

FP all I can say when it comes to monitors is, the bigger the better and the higher resolution the better.

What is the resolution of the two monitors you've seen? If you're going to get one with 1680 x 1050 then you're probably better off getting a none widescreen 1600 x 1200 for poker. The 24 inch is probably 1920 x 1200, which is better than 1680 x 1050 and 1600 1200.

Here are some setups on a 22 inch 1680 x 1050, the worst of the three monitors I mentioned, and as you can see its still not that bad. (Btw, these pics are not mine)

Btw, these pics are full 1680 x 1050 size.

Look in local stores before you buy the FPP ones. I've heard they're more expensive in Europe, but I got a 24"er for under $300 with the rebate, and with 50k of the 55k Pokerstars would have charged me for it I got a $650 goldstar bonus or even if you're just silverstar 55k will get you $550 worth of $50 bonuses (5k per $50). I'm kind of in a hurry but I'll post a few pictures when I get back home.

24" for under $300? And thats 1920 x 1200 resolution right? Prices here in the UK are ridiculous. The cheapest 24" I can find is £350 ($700)

The change from 'Normal" monitor to a wide screen was so significant, you just really can't fathom it.

I've got a 22 inch WS and can fit 6 tables very comfortably. My resolution is 1680x1050. This is a bit short of 1080 and does result in any third row of tables slightly overlapping. Else 9 tables could easily fit.

Since I don't multi-table all that much, I find that I can easily have my browser open, and play two tables quite smoothly.

Drop that notion of a normal monitor. Aim for the future, not the past. My particular brand is an Envision, but really I couldn't really see much difference in brand name.

Of note might be that when I changed to a wide screen, I found myself actually turning my head to see one side of the display or another, rather than just shifting my eyes. There really is a much larger difference once you unbox it than you want to think beforehand. Added bonus will be playing CD movies in wide screen format. I haven't done it yet, but was assured by the kids at the store I could do Hi-def, 1080 on my 1050 monitor.

I apologize for these very large displays, but you wanted an idea. With wide screen there is no scrolling side to side, it is all there in front of you. On the 9 screen the title bar of the table overlaps onto the bottom of the table above, but not so much that it interferes with the action buttons. It does cause problems with the chat box tho.

Also keep in mind that unless you can make your browser totally disappear, you are not getting the actual feel here. Each of these pics is a simple PrtScrn and fills the whole display. Oh, yeah, FullTilt does the big Wide Screen amazingly great. Fully uses every pixel and it is a wonder to behold.

I just realized that if you are thinking about a new monitor you may be seeing my screenshots on an old monitor and will not get the full effect.

Also just realized how Chuck must have dealt with his ear problem, and his pic is proof he paid his dog back by sucking the earwax out.

In my opinion, if you are going to multi-table do NOT tile them. Let them all be scattered, when it is your turn the window will pop up, make a decision and wait for the next table. I have done this with 16 - 20 tables and I never was to late and it was quite easy.

I have a 22" widescreen, Samsung 226BW. This was the best consumer 22" screen available at the end of last year. I play at max 4 tables of partypoker and it is great for that.

I will be upgrading to another monitor next year as I am giving this one to my sister when I move to Macau in August.

At the current prices, 24" with 1920*1200 seems to be the best way to go.

Yeah I play on the smaller one because the resolution is much better (1920x1200 vs 1360x768). I can barely fit 6 minimized without overlap on the 32". I can fit 12 with no overlap on the 24". Widescreen's really nice, but I don't think you need it unless you're playing more than 9.

My resolution is 1680x1050 also, on a 20" inch WS and can fit 12 tables with only one side of each table being overlapped slightly. You could do 15 tables with no problem imo also, but that's more overlapping. They don't overlap to the extent they get "lost" or would be painful, or as if you cascaded them. I don't know how anyone can play that way.

Interesting thread. Im currently playing on a 19" and tbh its not great. Im kinda in the same situation at the moment , and looking to upgrade. Im unsure if I should go for a single 24" or 2x22". The 24 is looking more appealing atm.

I think some of you are slightly misconceived. It's not a huge matter of a few inches of screen-age that you should be worried about. I believe your concerns should be how large the resolution your computer can put out and if your monitor(s) can handle it. As Taylor's mentioned, his 32" can only handle 6 tables because the max. resolution it can put out (or that is coming from the comp.) is pretty bad.

My current resolution is 1600x1200, on a non-widescreen 20" monitor. My problem is not the resolution, it's that 20" simply is too small for me to be able to read the PA-HUD stats without squinting when playing 7+ tables.

My problem is not the resolution,
Hmm. Well, I'm obviously not using PaHUD when I said you could do 15 tables on a screen. lool. If I were you FP, I would at least consider doing two 20" wides or bigger. Did you try increasing the font size of the poker program when you multi-table? (I'm not sure if you can increase PaHUD font size)

Manufacturer specs/manual. Try googling your monitor. I know my video card can do 2048 x 1536, but my monitor is maxed at 1680 x 1050, or it will spill over and I would have to literally drag my mouse over each edge of the monitor to get to a viewing area, like scrolling a web page horizontally and vertically to find info. lol

wait is the max res. monitor dependant or computer dependant?
ie: is there no point in getting a high res monitor if my laptop is maxed at a certain res?

i have it dragged to the highest: 1280x800.

does this imply that no matter what kind of monitor i get for my laptop, that will always be its max resolution?

No, I have a few years old IBM and it can display at 1680*1050 through my 22". All newish laptops should be able to do the same.

Just a note, 22 inch monitors give you more bang for your $ than 24 inchers...

Expect to pay ~100$ more for the 24 inch ones. Or at least that's what I found the last time I was in the market for monitors.

Wouldn't the extra $100 be worth it for the extra resolution? Its not just the size that matters with monitors.
