mindset tips? I believe that the biggest leak in my game has little to do with my actual game but more with my mindset. I spend most of my time at the table fixating on my results. If im in a tournament I focus on how much first gets, and how much of a jump that would be to my bankroll. I think about how well I have been playing today, and yesterday, or this month and I always end up losing at the current session. If I run good I get to focused on the hands I just won and I try too hard to get every hand to win so I end up losing a good portion of my stack, if not all of it, trying to play too fancy. At cash games I am always thinking about how much I am up or down for the current session. I put a piece of paper over my stack for a while and that seemed to work but I really dont like doing that. Does anybody have any tips on dealing with this or suffer from the same problem.

Yeah, the whole mindset issue is a huge leak for me too. Wish I had an answer for you. My biggest issues are the constant checking to see how I'm doing in a session which then affects my play and playing when I really don't feel like it, but feel I MUST play (gotta keep up the grind ya know). Also, a lot of times I play while I'm doing other things too (internet/TV/phone/etc). Terrible, I know, but yet I still do it. At least for the one leak with constantly checking my session stats I find that IF I can make myself NOT do this it really helps, but that's a hard thing to do sometimes. WAY too results oriented, I know.

re: mindset tips? poker Look at the lobby before the game, then forget it. Don't even look again til you are close to the bubble. And stop day-dreaming about how you are going to spend the winnings, that's a game-killer for sure. Try to stay IN THE MOMENT. The last hand doesn't matter. The only important thing about the last hand is any information you got about the other players and yourself. Did you misplay the hand? No, good. Yes, use the info to go forward. It's the same with golf. You can't focus on that bad shot you made, you have to focus on the shot you are about to make.

We have a great mindset coach here on CC, our very own Jared Tendler. Check out his thread in Learning Poker: http://www.cardschat.com/showpost1477793-post1.html Last edited by LarkMarlow : 15th December 2010 at 3:02 AM.
