Max/Min. Situation

Late night $20/40 limit game, down to 4-handed.

I've only played w/ villain 9-handed, so not really sure of his tendencies short. He's good player, probably small winner.

I open CO Ac6c, BB calls.

BB leads, I raise, call.

I think this is easy raise. Could be probing w/ all types of hands-- doesn't have to have 10, and actually expect C/R w/ 10. If he 3-bets, I'm probably in trouble, but can bail UI turn. I put 75% he'd 3-bet 77-99, and 95% 10's+ pre-flop.

I hate call-down mode short, allowing him to value thin against me. Can I find a fold before SD, UI? Can I raise for free SD? (obviously mucking to 3-bet). If I call turn, can I find a value bet if he checks safe river?

My bigger problem-- I don't have a feel how light he'd call down vs. his value betting range. Also, his view of me can't be too accurate shorthanded either, so finding a "correct line" is xtremely difficult.

{If this was NL, I raised 4x, and he lead just under 2/3 pot on flop... I??}

I like a raise for a free showdown. He could certainly be leading into you with a worse 6 heads up, and he'd likely call the raise since you're stealing.

I don't understand raising the turn for free showdown in limit?

Wait, is it just me, or would call-call accomplish the same as raise-check with the exception than with the second line he could bet the river. Turn and river bets are the same in limit right? So why would you not just call-call for the same price of a raise if you think he'll call your raise?

Because if I improve on river, I earn another bet. If I'm going to call/call, the thought is... raise now. He may call 2 bets on turn when behind, but may check/fold river, losing me a bet.

Plus raising for a free showdown may fold him out if he's on a hand like 77, or 67.

Raising for a free showdown is a standard play in limit against an easy to manipulate player. Generally it would be a better play if he had a bit more of a draw than just to two pair, since often he'd then be able to bet the river when he hits his disguised draw. However, in this case, I like the play. His flop call and then turn lead makes very little sense.

Also, if he's getting jiggy with KQ, KJ, QJ, etc., getting him to muck on turn would be huge for my hand.
