Play at what ever your good at. If you show up at a table and make $20 an hour and play like 8 hours a day you can make 40k + a year.. Id say most make a living off tournaments with 50k+ First prizes and do those a few times a week.

Yes stick to the games you do really well at. But as far as making a living off of poker, you going to have to be really dedicated to playing cards. Start reading books, practicing and getting tips from other players to build up your skills.

...and, it depends on what "a living" means to you. Do you need $25K/$50K/$100K per year or more? And even if you only need $50K, if you're good, why stop there?

I have actually heard many players who play professionally play multiple games at a time. Large tournaments with really large garuntees seem to be a trend among the pros from what I've read.

I love to game. I also harbor ambitions of sustenance from poker. These ambitions were founded when I had reduced my needs to $80 a month. Now my obligations are 25 times that. I am afraid to blow a precious bank roll on higher stakes, (the way to make money) and so I am just steadily growing, and looking for good odds. The over rididng issue here is: I have/do not cash out so my online winnings arent like money to me. Does anyone have tips for a US player to reguraly pay out?

It seems that it would be awkward the moment you felt as if you had a "job" playing poker, which could lead to rash decisions about your present abilities. As is the trend, a lot of hard work and dedication (as to any "job") and on this level, It would be hard to accept great variance.

I used to live on a boat and make lampwork glass beads, which I would trade for my needs ( incl. $) I would play in home games. Being of limited financial means, I would buy in as able, I would then (upon everyones agreement) I would use my handmade beads at a discounted value, as money direct. I was in essence creating money and I was very effective way to "sell" my product.

oh yeah, well i was in New Orleans once and found an incredible use for my beads too. Ok, I admit, I have never been to New Orleans. And I have never used beads to aquire anything of value. But hey, I learned of a new use for beads today...poker money.
